+3 to Robert for abstaining
+8 to Bipa for attempting to moderate and not preach
+10 to Landshark for doing what he does best, stiring the pot
+3 to lhopp77 for being Lee
-5 to lhopp77 for jumping to soon
-9 to WGJ for not relaxing a bit, this isn't the real world on here
-8 to SubaSteevo for being late to the party
I was going for the fashionably late entrance approach, guess it didn't work...

Actually I usually avoid political debates, because the people debating are usually the ones who will never change their mind. Sometimes I can't resist the urge to be a smartass though.

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Of course the world of 1759 is no way comparable to the world of 2006. I still say what's the big deal? The FBI is free to see what web sites I go to. None of them are in Arabic. They would get bored reading about my obsession over Porsches!

The price good men pay for indifference to public affairs is to be ruled by evil men.

No it's a mild intrusion to attain a greater good. The media spinning horror stories about reading E-Mail gets the normal idiot in this country paranoid. There is no way the FBI or CIA has the resources to read all the E-Mail. It is picked by set parameters. Don't visit anti-American or arabic web sites, and you won't end up in thier filter. Chiken Little syndrome sells papers and fires up the ACLU types.

The trouble with fighting for human freedom is that one spends most of one's time defending scoundrels. For it is against scoundrels that oppressive laws are first aimed, and oppression must be stopped at the beginning if it is to be stopped at all.
H. L. Mencken

I would rather be exposed to the inconveniences attending too much liberty than to those attending too small a degree of it.

So appearently your abilty to reason comes from out of context quotes for over 240 years ago. There is a list of favorable quotes by National leaders during the rise of Hitler, and we know how that turned out.
