Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I GOT MY A/C FIXED!! For some reason I thought the car was still running R-12, and then it hit me on Friday that R-12 systems don't use quick release fittings, so someone in the past must have converted it. Soooo I had a friend with some gauges and a vacuum pump hook up to it... we pulled it down and let it sit for about an hour with no leakage and then put some 134 in... pulled the gauges off and it starts hissing out the valve. No wonder there was nothing in there! I tightened the valve and it blows ice cubes out of the vents.

Needless to say, I am quite pleased! Now I gotta get a new cruise control button... Anyone have an extra switch set lying around they wanna get rid of?

Is that the original pearl white paint? It looks so milky white!

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I'm honestly not sure, certain parts look pearl, certain parts look plain/metallic white, and there are a few areas with chipped paint that is so thick i just dont know.

Put a new headliner in myself. Decided that my car needed to be a lumberjack, like me.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Blew the clock fuse under the hood 3 times in 1 day..
Ripped apart the sunvisors and the interior trying to find the burnt wires..
Found out that previous owner had already cut and removed the visor light wires.

Traced problem to having someone sitting in the front passenger seat.
Front passenger seat is manual, so scratched my head and looked at confused.

Then realized that I had installed LED floor lights under the seats to light up the back floor...

Wire got itself caught in the gear for the folding of the seat back...
It stripped off the shielding and was grounding out on the metal gears inside there when any pressure was put on the back of the seat..

Hours wasted tracing none existent wires through the ceiling and door pillars, only to find out it was a simple mistake on my part with where I ran the wires for my LEDs..

TLDR:

Totally worth the 3 blown fuses:

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Replaced the plastic headlight assemblies (JDM car) with glass assemblies from a NZDM car. While the lights were all in bits, fitted 6000k HID kit to the low beam lights.

Drove home tonight in the dark, wow !
What a huge difference it makes.

Not sure if it's the glass (the plastic was in poor shape) or the HIDs, either way well worth the cost.

Set of glass head lamp assemblies $NZ150
HID kit, ballasts & H1 bulbs $NZ99
Installation $NZ120

The glass headlights were half price because one of them had a small hole in the glass. It was in the fog light position (no fogs on NZDM cars) so the garage was happy to fit them and pass a safety inspection once I had put clear 3M bonnet guard over the hole so stop moisture getting inside the headlight.

Yeah... And yes the sunroof is not OEM. I also have no lights in the front but after taking the headliner apart I realized that there is no room for anything else up there.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

If you not mind me asking? How much did you pay for all four struts? The reason I ask is I live and work in Japan and the same parts are more expensive here!!
Thanks,
Charles Yost

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Pulled apart my front brake assemblies to try and find why they were squeaking, both show signs of high heat, one shows signs of un even wear. Time for some reman calipers.

Replaced radiator, installed transmission cooler, oil change, replaced brake fluid, replaced fuel filter, drained and refilled ATF, replaced accessory belt, fixed rattling heat shield, replaced a dead bulb.
