Bill,

I'm off the waitlist and confirmed for the Sunday event at Fedex. Hope you can make it!

BSP STI's & Evo's typically run a 305 or even 315 sized r-comp!

I wouldn't count on it. Wheels have arrive and one was test fitted last evening. Now they're just waiting to be mounted. FYI the tires are 2+ inches wider than the 16x10 wheels are and the wheels only stick out about an inch or so more than the 275s mounted with our 1 inch spacer.

Too bad we won't have had an alignment and will still be riding high in the rear for the Subie challenge as I'm not gonna pay $80 for an alignment only to loose it for the $2006 challenge when we need to go back to crappy r-compounds.

Well, here's what Chike's going to have to deal with today at FedEx....wish I could have been there
-Bill (trying to balance the fact that the flex plate is still not fixed with the fact that the race seats will get done this weekend along with mounting the 275s )

Thanks for posting that pic of the course Bill! Had a great time today and several experiences that'll stay with me for the rest of my life!!!

I was in the afternoon session, but I got there around 9:30am, so that I could watch Heat 1 finish up, as well as the drivers in all the heats that followed! I chatted at length with the course designer and multi-national champ winner Sam Strano. I also spoke briefly with Eric Kriemelmeyer (he's heavily favored to win G-Stock in his Spec-V), Mike Neary (heavily favored to win STU in his E36 M3 and Karen Kraus to name a few. However, THE ABSOLUTE HIGHLIGHT was talking to Rod McGeorge (one of the SCCA picks to be a contender in ASP) about the course layout, and jumping into his ASP C6 Z06 to ride shotgun on his first competition run! What a freakin' rush!!!!! He ran the second fastest time by a streetable car (a 60.1) and actually ended up finishing second to Mike Johnson in the ASP class (Mike went 59.5).

[side bar] On Rod's first run in the Z06 he went 60.8 with me in it. I've never experienced those kinda g-loads under acceleration, braking or cornering EVER in my entire life. Rod is the President and owner of McGeorge Toyota in Richmond, and has over 100K sunk into that Z06 (including purchase price) ranging from ECU tuning, headers, full exhaust, intake, suspension work, corner balancing, racing seat, etc. [/side bar]

In D-Stock they were 11 people who were pre-registered to compete. Due to the size of the event and the grid area, I only met about 6 other competitiors, as the others were on the far end. However, I was hanging out in the group with r-comps and the current WDCR points leader Larry Spector (Integra Type R). Larry won with a 66.7/66.8, and most of the BMw 330ci drivers on r-comps were in the 69 second range (one guy Curtis Staples, has been to Natl's twice and is the D-stock points leader with the Richmond autoX club "VMSC", and his best was a 69.1 or 69.2). My first run was a clean70.8, and after over-driving my 2nd run I pulled out a clean 70.2 on my third. I couldn't better the time on my fourth and final run. I'm not sure where I'll finish (probably 6th or thereabouts out of 11), but I can't wait to return next season when I'm on racing rubber! (btw several people mentioned I was the fastest D-Stock person on street tires and thought I might I could actually have beaten one of the r-comp BMW's that finished in the high 69's)

Chike

P.S. I'll post official results and pics (Team WTF? was out in full force) when they're available.

Results are up!

11 55 Ali, Agimon 2001 Bmw 330Ci Black 97.670+DNF 85.280 83.531 83.355 83.355

I ended up finishing 8th out of 11, and it turns out the guys in my group were wrong about me being the fastest on street tires as the Legact GT Spec B (parked on the other end of the grid) went 69.3 on stock RE050's. It's interesting to see where I would have placed if 2 seconds were taken off my time (if I had r-comp tires).

Btw, Sam Strano captured FTP today, and I finished 149th out of 256 in PAX (58th percentile).

Chike,
Congrats! So, how'd you like lots E & F? Little different from the courses back home? From the looks of the map, Strano gave you a fairly open course - this was the first course (or second?) course he designed this year at FedEx.
-Bill
p.s.
Let's see, if you had still been driving your stock SVX...

1T 32 Kriemelmeyer, Eric 2003 Nissan Specv Blue 65.391+1 64.922 64.884 64.200 64.200 -
2T 84 Foley, Rob 2005 Mini Cooper S Blue 65.588 65.008+1 65.374 65.433 65.374 1.174
3T 184 Jacobs, Jeff 2005 Mini Cooper S Blue 65.946+1 66.035 65.575 64.964+1 65.575 0.201
4 26 Shurie, Ronald 2002 Toyota Celica Black 67.421 66.424 66.814 66.236+2 66.424 0.849
5 41 Miller, Jonathan 2002 Mini Cooper S Dark Silver 68.777 67.559 68.052+1 68.677 67.559 1.135
6 69 Baker, Andrew 1997 Toyota Celica St Green 82.573 70.185 71.024 69.473+1 70.185 2.626
7 47 Supik, Frank 1994 Ford Probe Gt Silver 72.449+1 70.794 70.563 77.453 70.563 0.378

You would have taken Frank's Probe - he runs on VictoRacers. We tended to take turns finishing ahead of each other last year (damn Celicas and Mini Cooper Ss )

And then there's the "class of death" I find myself in now

1T 41 Strano, Sam 2001 Chevrolet Camaro White 61.724+2 61.620 61.916 61.112 61.112 -
2T 141 Snyder, Michael 2001 Chevrolet Camaro White 63.618+2 62.861 62.539+2 63.027+1 62.861 1.749
3T 87 Stewart, Tyler 1982 Chevy Camaro Z28 Purple 65.698 63.413 62.973 62.707+1 62.973 0.112
4 15 Burdette, Brian 1995 Chevrolet Camaro Z28 Patriot Red 69.450+DNF 63.741 63.664 63.276 63.276 0.303
5 68 Knowles, Phil 2002 Chevy Camaro Ss Victory Red 66.471+1 64.056 64.654 63.772+1 64.056 0.780
6 38 Catlin, Stephen 1999 Chevy Camaro Ss Black 65.156 65.089 65.094 64.615 64.615 0.559
7 69 West, Joshua 1995 Ford Mustang Cobra Rio Red 66.173 65.867 65.076 65.451 65.076 0.461
8 138 Catlin, Zachary 1999 Chevrolet Camaro Ss Black 68.049 66.442 67.208 66.802 66.442 1.366

Given where I ran relative to Phil and Joshua's times in the ProSolo with my "puny" 245s, my guess is that my sad, lack of seat time self would have been around a 68-69 sec time with the 275s (which is still slow in this class ).

So, congrats again!! Great job!! Keep up the good work.

-Bill (looking for seat time before the Subaru Challenge....)

Thanks Bill! I made a promise to myself that once I'm on Hoosier A6's or V710's next season (I've decided to go with one of those - thanks again!) I'm going to run at least 3-4 times with the WDCR in '07. Fedex stadium is a 2hr 40min drive from my house one-way which isn't too bad all things considered. Plus the depth of the competition there is one of the best on the East Coast!

Yeah, G-Stock is nuts. Much better drivers there than in D-Stock (PAX-wise). ESP is definitely one of the classes of death! Question, with the updating/backdating rule in the SP class, you should be able to drop a 2.5L WRX/FXT/STI motor or at the very least a newer 250hp 3.0l flat 6 into your SVX.

-Chike

P.S. Btw, the elevation changes on lots E&F were nuts. Nice large course though - it was billed as a National style course designed by a Nat'l champ!

Chike,
And who says my SVX won't have a 250 hp flat 6 in it soon

Yeah, the elevation changes along with the changes in surface along with the great course designers make FedEx hard to beat. If you're going to be a "regular" next season, you should just come out on Saturday and hang at my place -- only a 30 minute drive to FedEx.

Very true! You'll probably have a 300hp+ flat 6 in there!

Thanks for the offer. I'll definitely keep it in mind when planning to attend a WDCR event in '07. Btw, if you really want to autoX next weekend (last weekend before the Suby Challenge) and don't mind a drive down I-81, my SCCA club is holding an event just south of Harrisonburg.

Chike

P.S. I got a chance to try out the new tire pressures today and on my third run when I went 70.2, I found that 43psi front and 54psi rear made my car completely neutral in the turns. It definitely felt like both outside tires were gripping in the corners rather than my usual outside front tire washing out...
