Yeah, the pedal box is a pain to position with the steering column in place.
It took me a few minutes to wiggle it out at the junkyard.

Definitely a lot of wiggling. I also found out the extent of the rat's nest of wiring under there. Someone had installed and then possibly uninstalled and reinstalled some kind of aftermarket alarm.

I managed to clean it up and ziptie a lot of the wires so they'd be out of the way, and I'm fairly confident I won't kick anything loose when I finally drive this thing.

Depending on how far I want to take the restoration, I may eventually pull the dash and column out and replace the entire bulkhead harness, as I do have an extra. I did this when I EJ205-swapped my old Legacy wagon, and it was nice to clean up and secure the wiring to my satisfaction before hanging the dash back on.

The position of the pedals is going to take some getting used to. I definitely won't be able to comfortably drive the car in work boots. Maybe I'll pick up some slick driving shoes.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Did both my 02's a couple weeks ago, much better on the highway.
Cleaned the maf, slightly better idling.
Re-soldered the maf, engine eventually re-learned and is now idling smooth again.
Adjusted tps, shifting is much smoother.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I pulled the turbo out of my '92 Legacy Sport Sedan to fix a small leak in the oil return line that was dripping on the exhaust. (Amazing how Subaru always seems to "engineer" the spots where oil leaks occur so they drip right on the exhaust!) I had the car up on ramps so I could work underneath and a jackstand holding the exhaust up while I reconnected it to the turbo.

After I completed all the work, I backed down off the ramps but forgot to remove the jackstand (!) A moment later there was a big crash and within minutes all my engine oil was running all over the garage floor. By then it was 3 a.m., so I said a few choice words, threw some rags at the puddle, and went to bed. Still not sure what I broke-- whether I punctured the oil pan, cracked a valve cover, or what... The moral is, if you're working on your car at 3 am alone after a full shift at work, dumb mistakes are more likely to occur!

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

Installed Earthworm's poly front sway bar bushings yesterday, as well as new WIX fuel filter and a new accessory belt cover.

Old vs new:

What was left of my passenger side bushing, which caused mad clunking and "gangsta lean" as my friends liked to call it:

New ones installed:

Car handles much better now.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

The good news is that running over the jackstand in my '92 Legacy caused no apparent damage-- my loss of ALL my engine oil within minutes was caused by not getting the cam cover/support seated and sealed properly. Off comes the turbo and the exhaust again! At least it wasn't a punctured oil pan...

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

My starter finally gave out. I removed it and opened it up. The commutator and the gear looks fine, a little dirty but the brushes are shot. I could not find any replacements, so I'm buying the whole thing from Autozone, $79.99. Not bad, considering I'm doing all the work.

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

I didn't see any point getting a new transmission when the tires on the car are 3 different brands, and even though their sidewalls claimed to be the same size, none of them looked remotely similar to each other. So I figured before I risked burning up the replacement trans, maybe I should get all 4 tires the same brand and size. Fortunately for me, a friend of mine is moving to Montana in July, and offered to sell me his Michelin all-seasons that he was using for winter tires on his Mustang (his logic is that Montana's winters are just a *tad* more extreme than Virginia's, and his 650hp Mustang probably wouldn't do so well). While the tires were off the wheels, I went ahead and took care of the ugly chrome too.

The gold is a brighter than I wanted, but some brake dust should take care of that

Very Nice, but personally the trans would have been more important to do first. That's me

Re: What have you done to your SVX (or other Subaru) today?

That was my thought too, and I had plans to go find one at a junkyard yesterday - but, as I stated above, I didn't want to risk frying the transfer clutch because the tires weren't matched. I figured since the car is driveable right now, albeit annoying, the transmission could wait another couple weeks.
