ARP Bolts

The worksheets are all filled out for the head bolts and the mains. I'll post them in my locker if anyone wants to check my measurements. I used a very accurate vernier caliper, but measuring stuff like the depth of the thread from the bottom of the hole was difficult. I don't think that is going to be too critical though.

Mike, I'll probobly go with a set of ARP head bolts if we can get them in time... Otherwise I think the stockers will hold a bunch of boost

ARP Bolts

I still have not gotten any response from ARP. I mentioned that ECUtune would want to distribute the SVX Kit. I may call ARP this afternoon and bug them again. I hate to be the squeeky wheel, but you know what they say. Main bolt availibility is a critical path item for me right now. I just need to know if they are going to provide these or not, so I can get my honing done. The Cometic Gasket manufacturer also recommended using ARP head bolts, so before I order the cometic gasket I would like to find out about the head bolts.

If you don't mind, I'm going to wait and try to figure out how to post them in my locker. For some reason I have been unable to upload stuff there. Besides, it will really bog down your e-mail.

Arp

Well I tried to get ahold of Chris R. from ARP to discuss the status of the bolts. He was off giving a plant tour. If I don't hear from him by Friday, I'm ordering new block bolts from Subaru. If they still want to step up and provide head bolts, I'll try to get that worked out. Just kind of pisses me off I wasted my time measuring this stuff so carfully.

I'll take care of getting them to spec and quote head studs. The count as I have it is...

Chuck wants them
Bill do you definitely want them?
Tom maybe wants them

Is this correct?

And chuck wants block bolts as well

Throw me on the list too. Hopefully I'll be able to cough up some money for them.

ARP Head and Main bolts.

Yes I wanted both, provided they can provide sealing from the coolant jacket to the crankcase. Hopefully they will respond better to you. Have they contacted you? I gave them the name of your website on my last e-mail.

Thanks

Michael,
yep, as long as they'll come with nuts that will seal. I'm also interested in studs for the block.

p.s. Chuck - remember that the lockers are going away tomorrow...

Arp

OK. ARP got back with me. Mike will be happy to know that they make main bolts (not studs) for the engine. They have the 12 large size and the 2 small size main bolts. They also have casing seals(10) and washers (4) for them. They also make casing bolts, but I did not get into that with him since he seemed a little impatient as it was putting together such a small kit. Casing bolts are kind of overkill anyway IMHO.

The head bolts are another story. They have the large bolts from the EJ series kits. The small bolts are going to be tricky. He is going to send me something to try out, but they may be too long. I'll check to see if there will be any problems using them.

Just got the prices which are steep. Check this out

"We have the mains covered, on the head studs you may want to do test fit.

Head Stud;

ATP7.700-2LUGB, ARP2000 stud $16.98 each

APN12-1, 12pt nut $1.86 each

APW995N, Washer $0.57 each

Main Bolt;

M12AM6.215-4, INCONEL Main Bolt $39.25 each

M12AM4.175-4, INCONEL Main Bolt $38.08 each

11034-AMWS, Seal Washer $5.35 each

AMWC750 $1.11 each

The main bolts are components that are in our 4 cyl. kits.
All these prices are jobber price level."

That's $605.10 for the mains and $310.56 for the Head studs which may not work. Still interested Bill? Actually the price on the main bolts is reasonable compaired to other bolt kits for the WRX (which match up to the EG33), but frankly I had no idea they were so expensive. I think I will just go with the head studs only and go factory with the mains. They are reasonable.

I also mentioned that Mike wanted to distribute these through ECUtune.

I'm going to see if they will ship me a single stud to see if it works in the other locations. I'll keep you posted.
