Ah, ambiguity at its best -- if it was "apparent" then, there is no "probably" to it.

And, you "proved" nothing.

And, again, "experience" and "prejudice" based on small samplings are two different things. I have rubbed elbows with rednecks and execs alike for the past 48 years. That's pure research. However, pure experience will take precedence over research every time. Now, get back with me when you've had 48 years of personal, hands-on experience, and you might just end up convincing me.

Meanwhile, with your superior intellect, you're still not smart enough to realize, that I just love the hell out of pushing your buttons and watching you go off like a rabid, uncontrolled pit bull, chained to a stake, while dangling a freshly cut steak just out of its reach.

I never discredited any professional studies. I said it would be interesting to examine the data from it further. If that's very predictable of me, then thanks for noticing.

As for presuming what you did or did not say I'll remind you that, after I asked for clarification, you told me that you felt Mac users were more intelligent than the rest of the population. I don't see how I'm misunderstanding that.

So go ahead, feel smarter than me. I'll stop being offended by it.

I've been around computers long enough to know smart and dumb people using all kinds of systems, and for different reasons. Which is why I don't get this 'Mac users are smarter' argument.

I've known artists who were hacks on any system - and artists who were brilliant with any tool you could give them. I've known engineers who had to have their Unix systems pried from their fingers, despite the fact that those machines were no longer useful to them. I've known Mac users who swore up and down that their machines were better, and then blew their system boards by unplugging an external SCSI drive. I've known PC users who thought that their system directories were just 'extra stuff they didn't need,' so they deleted it all.

Go ahead and feel like you're part of an elite group of smarter super-humans for using your Mac. I don't care any more. Imagine you're saving the friggin' planet anf fighting the good fight. Competition in the computer market is good for everybody. Keep the underdog going as long as you can, because it keeps technology from stagnating.

Now I'm going to go get some work done. You guys enjoy the rest of your day and the weekend.

When you'll know which users between Mac and Pc are the most intelligents and/or fortunates and/or whatever let me know, I'll start another endless entertaining debate between the winner and Linux

Mac vs Linux ?
Pc vs Linux?

Who's gonna win???

anyway..... Choose the OS that suits you best and be happy , that's it! Don't try to force other people to think like you... If everybody was thinking the same, the world would become boring...

Smile! You guys still have your SVX which is, I think, the most important !

preaching to the choir mr. pockets . i agree with you 100%. there is no more or less intelligent person that's using a tool. it's like saying my craftsman hammer is better than your workbench. so who's more intelligent? the guy who is using the craftsman or the guy using a workbench?

also i was just saying that PC is a broad term for personal computer. i think it's better that it's better stated as MAC which uses the MacOS and Microsoft Windows which is what I think they are trying to say that have more 'dim' users. I mean Linux can run on the Pentium chip as well and I'm sure that Rob and Arondale aren't saying that Linux users are 'dim'. well i hope they aren't saying the users are dim.

BrUn, yeah linux baby rocks......windows is alright...without windows, i'd probably be out of work

Hey, they've put a lot of effort into making code this bloated - bugs come with the territory.

hmm..although my MAC experience is very limited. i may have to purchase one in the near future for a personal evaluation to see if it meets any of the needs for the people i work for. i don't have much experience, but are the text documents and spreadsheets portable? Are there accounting applications that are robust and process control applications that are readily available at a fair price?
Yes, you can use save a word doc on a pc and open it on a mac, edit it, and send it back to a pc without any hitch. you can do the same with excel, powerpoint, dreamweaver, fireworks, photoshop, flash, pro tools, and others. compatability is not really an issue any more. However, MS has not ported Access over to the pc. You can use access on a mac using virutal pc, which is windows xp. virtual pc is now owned by microsoft.

Accounting apps that run native on Mac OSX:
-Quicken
-Quickbooks Pro
-FirstEdge (http://www.apple.com/macosx/applications/firstedge/) (this was the original MYOB)
-Peachtree Accounting
-Dosh Small Business
-GnuCash (orig. UNIX, but OSX is built on UNIX

You will have to look at those above to see if they do not offer what you want them to do. I'm sure there are others.

Also, since OSX is built on UNIX, you can use ANY UNIX command by opening the Terminal. I use it all the time. You can also run X11 (UNIX gui).

Secondly, if you had read the story, what it said was that Mac users generally have MORE education than PC users, and make more money. Both of which go hand in hand with being more intelligent. I delivered proof.

- Rob

Oh, Rob, Rob, Rob, pu-leeeze!!! In the interest of brevity I neglected to include the statistical portion of your post & now I'm spreadin' confusion. My deepest apologies.

On a semi-serious note, & keep in mind this comment comes from an idiot who considers this machine to be an appliance that allows me cruise this, & other "adult" content sites, & nothing more; isn't (wasn't) a MAC always considered to be 'puter for graphic designers & such? I would EXPECT a more specialized product to be used by "specialists", who generally become so by putting in time at an institution of "higher" learning, as opposed to the PC neanderthals who just need their daily Paris Hilton fix.
Why should we need Nielson (probably Leslie!) to verify the obvious? Oh, well - I gotta' go snort a Heineken. Need some brain food.

It was sarcasm. I just found it stupid that someone was disagreeing with me when they couldn't even quote someone properly.

Quote:
What is your definition of 'MORE education'? A person with a college degree? Since when does having more 'EDUCATION' constitute more 'INTELLIGENCE'? Is a monkey more intelligent if you teach it how to paint or to use sign language?
Someone with a college degree has MORE EDUCATION than someone without. Generally, more education= a more intelligent person. You will find exceptions. Again, I point you to the term generally.

Quote:
So you believe that people who have more education will make 'MORE' money.
Generally yes, but this wasn't the point. The point was I believe Mac users are generally more intelligent than the average PC user. This is based on my experiences in life. Pockets, who is a PC zealot, took extreme offense to this statement because he does not understand the meaning of the word 'generally'. He asked me to prove my point, and I did, and now instead of admitting it, he won't respond because he's mad at me for being blunt.

I'm blunt because I'm pissed off because I am right and you guys didn't believe me.

Quote:
You don't have to have a degree to make money!
1. I've never said otherwise
2. This isn't the point I was getting at
3. If you have a degree, you will GENERALLY make more money than if you did not have a degree.

OH ****! I USED THE WORD "GENERALLY" AGAIN!!!! That means all you PC users won't understand it at all!

Okay. You're older, so any point I make is automatically wrong since you have had more time on this planet, and any studies I show you that prove you wrong are 'incorrect' studies since they aren't as old as you.

I get it now.

By that rational, does it make ANYTHING I say automatically correct when I'm speaking to Phil, since I'm older than him?

I'm officially done with this argument. I've proved my point by logical rational thoughts, yet you still demanded proof and failed to listen to what I was saying.

I gave proof, you just say its 'interesting' and fail to realize that maybe I do, in fact, know what the hell I'm talking about.

Keep arguing if you want, but remember one thing:

Scoreboard:

Rob: 2
Everyone else: Zero

I win.

Of course you do, Rob. Please stick around so we can learn more from your superior Mac-user intellect.

Your problem, Rob, is that you keep score and think of it as winning and losing. And you'll twist your logic and claim your opinion to be fact until you've decided that you've won.

It's not about winning or losing, Rob. I am perfectly happy to be proven wrong if I learn something in the process. But I haven't learned anything from this argument beyond your tendency to present your opinion and bias as fact.

And even when you presented a study, you were unwilling to examine it any further. To you it's black and white, and if one thing points to your claim, then you must be teh w1nn0r!

You don't know how to discuss or argue, Rob. You just know how to rant, with no attempt to listen to anybody else.

So, fine. From now on, whatever you say is right, okay? I will never contradict you again, because there's no reasoning with you.
