Serious bad luck!! HELP!
Well, I guess with no replies, nobody had their fingers crossed for me.
Had my house burgled Friday last, door broken, small amount of money taken, a lot of large pieces of crystal and some jewellery. Could have been a lot worse. But the bad luck continues...... Rang the transmission specialist yesterday [Monday] to enquire if he had my SVX ready. He said he would have had, except that his workshop was broken into and robbed. They stole all the best of his tools, about £3000 worh of Snap-On gear, his diagnostic computer for electronic transmissions, [another £3000 worth], a Mercedes 300E which they used to haul away the stuff, and last but not least, my SVX gearbox!!! Of course, in loading the haul into the Merc, they used my bootlid[trunk] as a handy platform for the metal boxes. And the black paint is scored right down to the white plastic! I am not sure if I am mad or disappointed or something in between. To my knowledge, there are only three SVXs in the whole of Ireland. What they are going to do with my tranny is beyond knowing. I will have to claim the value of the tranny from the garage insurance, and I would appreciate your help here. Could you guys give me an indication of what a replacement tranny costs with no trade-in? Much appreciated if you can. Joe

Joe,
Helen had e-mailed Megan about your bad fortune. I'd meant to get 'round to offering my condolensces, but, things have been rather crazy. Of course, she hadn't mentioned the SVX side of the story. I'm so sorry. I'm angry enough for you and me, so, if you'll keep a cool head, I'll do the swearing, ranting and stomping from this side of the pond, while you get things squared away on that side. At any rate, here's what they're getting in the states for a new tranny w/o core exchange: http://www.subaruparts.com/diag/?mod...category=150-A

Thanks dude
for the help. I am all ranted out!!
Helen would not have known about the car I think. Pat is going to rebuild the old box I had stored away, so at least I am not in the position of waiting on a replacement from Japan! My car could be off road for months with that scenario. However, I will be looking for the replacement value from the insurance. After all, I had two trannies, now I have only one, no spare, and out of pocket too. I'm hoping Andy or Arthur or someone with a non-import can price a replacement box in the UK for me. The US box is diifferent, the drive to the rear is not done the same. Likely in fact that the UK/Japanese box is a good deal more expensive. Hopefully by the end of the week there will be light at the end of the tunnel that is not on the nose of a train!! Joe

Let's just hope the misery gods have exhausted your lifetime quota of aggrevation in one fell swoop, & will move on, never to return to you, Joe. They can stay out of my backyard as well.
Best wishes from this day forward. Ron.

Bad, bad, bad, bad, bad, bad,bad........
seriously bad luck Joe !!
I will try asking my Subaru agent here for a price. All I can say is it's a good thing you had a spare trans kicking about. The paint will fix but the damage will be there for a while, if you know what I mean........... Phil.

Thanks James and Ron.
I do feel a little like as if bad luck came looking for me. Maybe I have now absorbed my share, and the future will pick up. I shall presume so until proven otherwise!! Keep you informed. Joe

Sorry to here about your troubles, Joe. Unfortunately my 'puter thew a wobbly and I have not been on line for some time. I could not resist it any longer so sneaked off from work for a session at an internet cafe.
I will see what I can find out about gearboxes and get back to you. I knew that you should have bought the car I told you about I am just glad that I live in a low crime area, even so I still had a load of tools stolen a month ago. Best wishes

Thanks Andy
ICBP is back on the road again today.
The second failure was the pump. I am being very wary of it now. Listen to every squeek, rattle or thump. Fearing the worst. However, if it continues to behave, I may be in better shape next week. Fingers crossed. Joe

Thanks Todd.
I do hope so. Without being mechanically paranoid, I feel I am due an uninterrupted trouble-free run anytime soon. I have spent quite a bit of money recently trying to ensure this is so. Joe
