Re: Wiring for manual gearbox on Oz, JDM & European Cars.
JJ I hope you didn't wire the starter through the gear box netrual switch. The reason is that the gearbox switch can not take the direct current for the stater and will bur out.

Re: Wiring for manual gearbox on Oz, JDM & European Cars.
I think it is best to sort out the speedo first so here goes, its very simple and can be done to a working siple level in about 2 hours.
The sender on the gearbox has the following wires:- from the left with the catch or lump on the top of the connector. The first terminal needs to go to the postive power on the battery (later we will wirer it better), next terminal to the ground of the body of the car, the last is the signal wirer. Okay locate the white wirer on the 16 pin terminal block terminal 15, second last bottom row right side of the plug. My wire is white with a slight black strip, that connects to the signal. I will come back with the wiring under the dash in the next day. Tony

Re: Wiring for manual gearbox on Oz, JDM & European Cars.
Under dash wiring is as follows:-
We are going to cut into the old TCU plugs that were pluged into the unit. We are looking for the Black 20 pin & Black 16 pin under. On black 20 located pin 17 which is a white wire, on the Black 16 locate pin 6 Yellow Red. Join the two wires together. If you have done the rest right the speedo should now work. Hope this helps. Tony

Re: Wiring for manual gearbox on Oz, JDM & European Cars.
Hi,
ok thank you for your description. but works the sensor with 12 volts? i thought 5 volts or so. is the signal of the legacy mechanical speed sensor the same like the inductive svx sensor? I have no information about the old legacy speedsensor wiring. Can I test each speed sensor wire of the legacy sensor with the svx connector pins , or could it destroy the ecu ? Thank You |

Re: Wiring for manual gearbox on Oz, JDM & European Cars.
The sensor is 12v the output goes low or zero volts. Did you get the wire and plug with the sensor? If you do the wiring as I suggest you won't hurt the ECU. Give it a go.
Tony

Re: Wiring for manual gearbox on Oz, JDM & European Cars.
Will the car start in gear? If so then the wring might be okay. Is there a relay under the bonnet?
Tony

Quote:
Thank you for the German diagram scan. That is very interesting to see. From our research it would appear the German market SVXes were equipped with the ACT-4 gearbox. See thread here: http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/show...any#post485067 UK, Australia/NZ and Japanese SVXes were supplied with the VTD gearbox. These markets were all RHD. In this VTD type gearbox the speed sensor signals both come from inside the gearbox, but with the ACT-4 type one of the sensors [SS2 I think] is fed from the differential housing and is the Hall Effect type. The reason I mention this is because I would expect your speed signal to the speedometer to be coming from the additional wire beside the dip stick for the differential of your auto, rather than in the wiring loom [cord] running up the left side of the gearbox, as it would for the VTD type. I hope I am making this clear enough. Assuming I am correct about your gearbox type this may imply but not guarantee that whatever speed signal re-wiring the US owners have done for manual gearboxes will also work for your German gearbox. By implication what the Australian guys have to do to keep their speedos working may be a little bit different, becuse I don't believe their speedo gets the Hall Effect signal. Joe
