Re: front right cv boot replacement help
they are a easy replacement just pound the key out with a 3/16" punch, unbolt the ball joint from the control arm and remove the axle nut from the end of the shaft.. and yes your going to want to replace the whole cv shaft... as far as the front diff goes you need to remove the transmission to get it out.

Re: front right cv boot replacement help
I have a couple of boot kits I bought before deciding it was safer to replace both. I will see what comic book came with them.

Re: front right cv boot replacement help
All boot kit's that I've used come with instructions. Also, you didn't mention which boot needs replaced? To replace the outer, you need to take apart the inner, so you'll need a second boot kit (or at least the clamps)
WARNING Replacing boots is a big mess and will result in axle grease everywhere in your shop or work area. Have a roll of paper towels and a lined trash can nearby. Pay close attention to the direction of how things come apart. You'll also need a pair of snap ring pliars, and some boot kits require a special tool to tighten the clamp. Try to find a kit that doesn't. And the $115 for a new axle sounds high?? Have you shopped around??

Re: front right cv boot replacement help
I have done it both ways - replace the boot, and the axle. I will replace the axle every time now. It is all done and you don't have to worry about how it was done. It takes about 1/3 of the time as well. Just in and out.

Re: front right cv boot replacement help
Save yourself a little trouble and break the axle nut loose before you jack up the car.
