Initial hesitation
My 92 SVX has a new quirk. WHen I first start it up in the morning, it will hesitate on my first acceleration onto the highway upto about 3K RPM. After that it is fine. If I let the car sit and idle for about 1-2 minutes, it will not hesitate. Any thoughts.
I use premium fuel from Sunoco My oxygen sensors and fuel filter are less than 6 months old. I use redline fuel injector cleaner every other oil change. The svx has 138000 miles. Thanks |

i ALSO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM, IN THE MORNING AND EVENING. SEEMS TO HAPPEN EVERY TIME IT IS PARKED FOR A LONG TIME. A TECHNICIAN ONCE TOLD ME IT COULD BE THE MAP SENSOR BUT I DID NOT TAKE THE TIME TO HAVE HIM LOOK AT IT.

I've always had this problem. It seems to be very common and I've seen numerous past threads on this issue. What I havn't seen is a solution or explanation. So if anyone can offer advice, please be so kind as to do so.

This is a common SVX problem. I've heard a couple different explainations, but the answer I seem to hear a lot is that the fuel injectors need a minute or two to warm up until they work properly. My 95 had 90,000 miles when I bought it and it has done this since I first took it for a test drive. If I let the car sit for a few minutes after starting, it doesn't happen. But if I don't let it sit, I get hesitation for a minute or so as I accelerate. Warm starts (even if the engine is only slightly warm) present no problems.

So I take it there's no cure for this problem, other than to let the car warm up.

Davie,
I'm not sure. I've heard that the injectors actually clog up a little when they sit for a few hours....not from dirt or anything like that but from a design flaw involving the tip of the injector. It's just something I've heard or read somewhere so who knows if it's true. David |

My car has done this since I've owned it. It's just one of those little SVX things I have learned to live with and ignore.

Yeah, this is a real common problem. My father works at the local Suby dealer. I'll have to ask him if he has any clue as to what causes it.
David p.s Davie, I like your signs! |
