Cigarette lighter/Fuzzbuster
So, here's the thing.
On my '92 SVX the cigarette lighter works just fine. That is, it heats up when you push it in, and you could, if you so desired, light up a cigarette with it. Now, when I plug the cigarette lighter power adapter into the receptacle, the fuzzbuster doesn't work. It doesn't make any sense. By the way, it's for a BEL RX 65. Any ideas? Thanks! |

Is there a fuse in the power adapter for the FB??
Try spinning the adapter in the socket. Try cleaning the socket. MAKE SURE THERE IS NO POWER TO THE SOCKET!!!! then shove some steel wool in there and spin it around. Use a air gun and shop vac to clean the dust out.

When you say power adapter, is it a plug for the unit, or a power adapter of some kind?

Well, that's the thing. There's good power to the socket, and it's also fairly clean. The actual cigarette lighter thingy heats up just fine, so it doesn't seem to be a fuse issue.
And, I've done just that, polished/cleaned the inside of it. It's a weird problem... |

I mean the plug or power cord.
So, the thing that you stick into the empty socket. |

Oh, my fault. I forgot to mention that it works just fine in other cars. So, the device itself is ok, as far as I can tell.
So, I'm wondering if there's a power limit in the SVX? Or if the voltage is different from your "average" American car? |

If you have different devices, try one of those in the SVX.
Also, try turning the adapter.

A "ghetto" fix would be a small piece of card stock folded under the metal contact on the side of the plug. Ahh the lessons learned on 8-track tapes. This will hold the ground out so it makes positive contact with the socket.
I'd also check the depth of the socket to ensure the plug is long enough to reach the positive button in the bottom. DON'T use a screwdriver for this. use a wood pencil, or a plastic pen

I had the same problem with mine. I ended up wiggling it around till I found the sweet spot, not sure why this is, and it's not the first time I've run across it....
BTW WI drivers beware, State patrol is using a new radar system that most detectors dont pick up. My Passport 8500 is blind to it. That was an expensive lesson.... |

Guys,
Some states are using a GPS thingmajig already, plus fuzzbusters have a hard time with the windshields of our cars. For some reason it does not work. I have a cobra 9800 (i think), worked like magic in the accord but crap in the svx. It limits the range. I also did was tap power from the visor light to mount mine high enough. Splicing the wires to the plug (yes i cut the cigarette wire out. |
