steering rack...
i took my 92 LSL to my independant subaru shop to have struts, ball joint, and tie rods replaced; part of my cash infusion to have it ready for my big road trip to the 10th Ann. meet.
When doing the tie rods the mechanic found my steering rack leaking power steering fluid....Is this common? Can it be rebuilt? Has anyone had this problem? How did you fix it? etc etc .. I have been using the same shop for the past 15 years, and totally trust these guys. They have taken care of all my Subies, and have never jerked me around. I am not doubting their finding; I just don't know anything about this fancy steering system....any input appreciated! Tom |

Normally they don't leak at all (Hondas excepted, they always leak eventually) but if it's only a few drips I'd just keep an eye on it. They can be rebuilt, but most techs like the remans for the ease of repair.

Mine seems to be leaking on the driver's side if at all; there is a little fluid where the boot meets the center metal thing and the boot gets some fluid on it on the bottom, after I wipe it off. But the transmission lines above it are leaking at the connections and as soon as the local Subaru place gets the Trans Filter kit in I can replace them and see..
