Replacing Strut Bearings
How do you determine if front strut bearings are good or not? I'd hate to waste the $150 on new bearings if mine are still fine. Thanks.

Do you mean wheel bearing or strut mount?

Sorry, upper strut mount.

Well, unless you have access to a shake table like the car manufacturers do, you're pretty much going to have to take the struts off and inspect the mounts. I think they're only $70-$80 each, but if you're going to go through the trouble of removing the struts, you might as well replace the mounts if they're old, or at least have them handy for future use. The fact of the matter is, they will have to be replaced sooner or later, unless yours is a show car that gets very few miles through out the year.

I didn't take a very close look at the new ones I got before having them installed, but from what I remembered, they were very solid. Meaning no play between the rubber and metal parts. My understanding is that the rubber parts deterioate and allow the metal parts to clank together.
