Lazy Sunroof
I know this is a known issue, but I can't seem to find out what the deal is.
If I wanted to actually spend the money and time to fix the "I have to push the sunroof open 1/4 way before it opens itself" problem, what I am I looking at replacing? Thanks in advance. |

I think one of the easiest ways out is to lube up the rails with graphite dust or summin'.
Nothing else short of replacing the motor.

Yeah, this would be cool.
Although, I'll admit I've become pretty suave at being able to make it look like it's actually opening by itself with the 'ol one handed button and simultaneous top push. |

I can think of something a bit shorter than that, like tightening up the clutch nut.

Silicone spray is a much better product to use for the lube.

Here is an excellent review of this recurring nightmare.

I found that if you completely remove the sunroof you'll find a number of small white bushings that have disintegrated. I replaced them with regular old aquarium air tubing, cut to fit. Lubed with a silicone grease that doesn't attract dirt. I did this around May or June and so far, using it several times each day, it works flawlessly.

I would have to agree that sunroofs can be a problem when they no longer operate properly. If your not willing to crack it open and take a look, there are many upholstery or glass shops that are willing to repair it for a reasonable price depending on what the problem is. There are tons of tiny moving parts in there that get dusty, chewed up, and worn out.
