Torque converter locks/unlocks - really annoying
As I understand it, the torque converter will not lock until it reaches ~160 degrees F, and will unlock if it dips below 120 degrees. Ever since I got my new transmission, it seems as though the new algorithm is to lock if at 160 degrees and unlock if at 159 or something. In other words, after it first locks up it will subsequently unlock within seconds, and stay unlocked for a while, then lock back up once or twice before staying there. It's really annoying, why does it do this and is there a way to get it to just stay put?
Also, for the first few minutes after startup the engine braking seems really eager to kick in when letting off of the gas, then the RPMs pop back up again to coast. This is even more annoying. If I let off of the gas really slowly then I can get the car to slow down for a longer distance, but requires more skill than I can muster. Also if I let off of the gas and then accelerate the RPMs will first dip slightly (and slow down the car) before picking up and accelerating. This will even happen on the interstate with the TC locked up. It's split-second, but rather rough and annoying. Is there a fix for any of these, perhaps a new TPS? Thanks, |

I had that.
It turned out to be a dirty TPS. What was happening was that the TPS was sending a signal that the computer interpreted as me flooring it so it unlocked the TC. It only happened at cruising speed. Check the ECU and TCU for error codes. Doug
