I don't think you would like the 4.44 manual. You'd be rowing thru gears like one of those viking boat slaves set to a Prodigy song.
4.44's are great in a quick shifting auto, but I think the sweet spot in a stock eg33 is a little low for it.

4.44
4.44 gears allow you to use taller tires appropriate for the weight. my 255/50-16s are the same height as the foresters 215/60-16s and the aston martin v8's 235/40-19 fronts with the width of the bmw m6's fronts. the 5sp isnt exactly close ratio.

255/50/16 is a huge sidewall.

Porschekiller, why do you keep throwing out odd tire sizes for the SVX? Every tire has a load rating and while typically they do increase as the the tire gets larger it's in most cases un-necessary or detrimental to handling to do so. Also, what do an Aston Martin and 80's supercars tire sizes have to do with the SVX?

physics
natural law never changes no matter the appearance. everything's an equation. this years winner of uscc on the cover of super street or sport compact car is shod with 315/35-17 on all 4. It's also a WRX from PDX tuning. i rest my case.

Rest your case? Your logic escapes me in your statement that the winner of the uscc (whatever that is) was won by a car with 315/35-17 tires, yet above in this very thread you want to put 255/50-16 tires on an SVX and in posts in other threads you recommend tires of different sizes and different load carrying capabilities on an SVX.
Do you have any first hand knowledge of tire sizes on an SVX, or any car for that matter, on a track or an autocross course? It seems to me that you are only reading magazines and pulling figures out of the air that don't support your statements. Convince me otherwise as these statements I fear would have lost you your case.

Nate, he is right... The smaller the sidewall, the better the lateral handling is going to be in most cases... The taller the sidewall, the better the linear traction... its a give and take scenario in which you need to chose your option. I still say a 245/45/16 is a good fit

pdxtuning
scc was accurate about the tire sizes pdx tuning used. it's interesting that pdxtuning found an inexpensive way to use the same dimensions as the front tires on Grand Am G35s. 2,400lb cars by the way.

I rest my case. You have no personal experience with the subject matter under discussion and refer to magazine articles for your facts.
I'm done.
