Rear Brake Question?????
I need to replace my rear brake pads and I did a search in the "How To Documents" but I couldn't find anything about back brakes.
Do the pistons in the rear brake calipers retract with a C-clamp or do you need a special tool? Thanks for the help in advance, I just want to know what I am dealing with before I get in there. I hate surprises. |

The rear is the same as the front except it has one piston rather than two.

That is correct. I will try to get a How-To on it as well.

I just finished replacing all brake pads and rotors. The backs are just a bit easier than the front. Use a C-clamp to push the pistons in. Make sure you loosen the cap on the brake fluid first.
I am not particularly happy with the rotors and pads from I-Rotors on ebay. First, their shipment was very slow and arrived without the pads. They sent the pads fairly quickly after I notified them. I couldn't get the rear pads into the little brackets and ended up reusing the old pads. I probably could have filed the slots in the pads to get them to fit, but my old ones were still good and I had enough frustration by then. The right rear rotor scrapes on a small metal flange that appears to be for sort of sealing up the parking brake shoes. The problem might be with the flange, but the old (original?) rotor didn't do it.

Thanks for the quick responses. I was afraid it would be like the brakes on my XT and that they would "screw" in. Sounds like an easy enough task, I guess I'm off to the parts store in the morning.
