Re: FS: Mint 38K 1992 Claret LS-L

Agreed about the rust, BUT, I also think his price is not out of line. I would consider that to be a nice car, and there aren't many nice examples left.

Fixing the body rust on my SVX (43,000 miles) involved welding in lots of new metal and repainting the entire lower portion of the car. It wasn't inexpensive, but at the mileage, the car was worth saving. I now have a stunning low mileage svx. To a real fan, this may even be priceless.

I'd also like to add that book value is absolutely meaningless in both directions. I sell cars for thousands below and thousands above book all the time, none of which are priced unreasonably.

why selling it?
I posted this car for sale on behalf of my father since he's not really into the interwebs. We originally purchased the car to drive in the winter because at that time I think we had an AMG C32 and my car is an MR2. Then he decided to get an extra set of wheels and snow tires for the AMG. Too many cars, not enough people to drive them anymore. I'd like to keep it for when I don't live in NYC but it's better off with an owner who can get some use out of it. And I get my spot back in the driveway for my car. My MR2 has been sitting on the street under a tree for several years.

KBB means next to nothing. The car is worth what someone will pay for it. My MR2's KBB value is probably half of what someone might pay.

1. The transmissions in the '92 had failure issues and were replaced under warranty when they failed. While the low mileage on this car is fantastic, it also brings into question how long it will be before the trans does go.
All I can say to this is that the car was never abused when it was driven. Do tranny coolers help with this issue?

2. Pics of the "small rust spots"?
I will get some pictures of the rust.

Quote:
3. How long has the car actually "stood" between being driven for any length of time? This will impact the condition of the struts (seals take a set and then start leaking when exercised) and the exhaust system (moisture = rust)
I don't really know but I'm guessing a couple of months maybe. The most amount of time it was driven since we've had it was probably when I drove it to Devens, Mass for an SCCA National Tour event in 2008. As much as I wanted to autocross the car at least once, I never did. Rust in the exhaust shouldn't be an issue as the car is started and run pretty frequently.

The rust on the car could certainly be more that one can see with the naked eye. We have nothing to hide about the condition of the car and we aren't looking to rip anyone off. I will get some more pictures so potential buyers can see for themselves. Anyone who is seriously interested in the car is free to make an offer on the price and/or call the number above and talk to my father about the car.

Body rust is just part of the problem. A car with rust is extremely difficult to work on as every single exposed bolt is rusted.

Not always the case. My laguna had rusted out doors, and was a MN car it's whole life. While working underneath, I did not have a single bolt snap or break. It's also how my silver has been the few times I've been under it which was also a MN car before I got it. The NJ claret I picked up which was originally an IN/MI car was also not bad to work on. Now, I'm not saying they're not rust free like you southerners would see it as I've seen the underside of a FL SVX, but they don't rust out near as bad underneath like most cars do. I have yet to see one with rusted floor pans, or any rust issue other than in the quarters and doors and the very occasional front fender.

Re: FS: Mint 38K 1992 Claret LS-L

free bump..

if I had $ sittin around I'd gladly jump all over this car. Its very beautiful and clean and the mileage is AMAZING!

the car is worth 8 grand to me and the thing about the blue book on these cars, its not accurate. They dont take into effect that these cars are hella rare. Generally I add 2 grand to a bluebook price for these cars just for the sheer difficulty to find a SVX thats in good shape or low mileage.

38k miles is with at least 2500 dollars to me.

GL selling it, I hope that beauty finds a good home

Re: FS: Mint 38K 1992 Claret LS-L

I looked at my price graph, and without taking any minor rust into consideration, it is priced about right by the mileage and year.

Re: FS: Mint 38K 1992 Claret LS-L

I think the car is priced fairly. The problem is that there just aren't that many people who are really looking to purchase such nice low mileage examples.

I think there are a lot of SVXs for sale which aren't being marketed correctly.
