struts question
I have the Motorsport spring kit installed on my car. They were already there when i bought the car but I believe that a couple of the struts are blown. to replace them am I going to have to get a performance strut or will stock struts be fine?

Um I have the set up in my car. It is really up to u. like if you are going to race you car going with the Koni but it is just for the Inserts not the whole thing and they going around for $730 and up. while if you are not really going to race your car going with the stock one all four will be around 5 to max 6 hundred. I have a / for u. when u drive your car have u ever had this tapping sound come over one of your back strut from the top. Not sure if you got that but ever had anything sound weir coming from you top mount?

As someone who has used both, if you really planning on keeping your car for a long time my recommendation would be Koni inserts. I have used Mychailo's springs, and they were a great compromise between handling and comfort but I bought brand new Subaru OEM (manufactured by Showa) for all 4 corners.
They stopped making "new" struts for a long time, so the ones you do buy as "new" have been sitting on the shelf. Both my rear struts went out within a year and a half. Check out mychailo's thread on the DIY Koni inserts, as it takes out most of the guesswork to a lot of the installation. Plus these are rebuildable with a lifetime warranty.

it doesn't sound like bottoming out more like a thud whenever i go over bumps. I dont plan on racing the car, when u race things break easier. I'm more just looking for longevity out of the car because i wont get rid of it any time soon. Either way tax return will be my cars best friend this year so I'm trying to figure out my options now so I can get the most for my money.

struts
i have broke my strut top mount on my 1992. i drove on a hilly road a little too fast a got air bourne or maybe it was to bad pothole my wife hit that bent the rim i don''t know. but i do know that when i jacked up my car the strut was losely sitting in there with a broken strut. from the engine bay looks fine, but when you jack up your car the wheel will not lift off the ground, and break your jack because i jacked it to the max and bent it. I sratched my head and then after the spot of my head was bald from sratching i lifted the tire with my hand.then i drove on it like that for 5k mile until my local junkyard got a 200k mile svx i bought the strut for $10 but it works as far as the koni inserts for the price of new oem struts vs koni inserts is to close to buy the oem and @95k my strut broke and if you do the inserts they use a pipe cutter which is ok i guess if your cutting pipe or are on the pipe but a grinder with a $2 cut-off wheel it''s thin maybe a 1/8 inch thick and cuts through anything fast easy and as accurate as the users hand
ps home depot sells them in the tool department they have a blue label |
