Damn, I really need a smoke right now.
I've had my new boss for a grand total of 2 1/2 days now, and I'm already praying for the inevitable: her neck on the chopping block when our dept. implodes, and needs to be restructured...again. WTF kind of idiot promotes a programer, who can barely turn on a PC to begin with, to director of IT support?!? And to make things worse, she's the type that's going to have a cheery voice and a smile on her face while she's bending you over with no lube.
Well, with any luck, the rest of my team will just draw and quarter her while I'm on vaca next week, then maybe someone with some brains will promote, well, someone else with some brains. [/rant]Sorry guys, she just set me off this morning...again, and mostly everyone else is out today, so I needed to vent somewhere. Have a Happy Festivus, everyone!

Occasionally I'll get calls for computer help and something will be too complicated to deal with over the phone, so I tell them to check with their departmental/local tech support. The most helpless people always say, "I am the local tech support". Evidently, you don't need a brain to get hired/promoted anymore. Ugh.
On that cheery note, For all your red stapler needs

Well, since I was sick in bed for all of my vacation and didn't play on the net much, just give me a minute to catch up before I clarify the situation.

Now, let me clarify on her incompetance a bit, and you'll understand why I'm so POed. Like Alex mentioned, I've also seen people dumped into the role of IT support merely because they knew something, anything about a computer, and were handy, and to a certain extend I can understand that. But, and maybe this is my own opinion, the director of IT support should know a thing or two about computers. The following is what she has approached the team with this week alone:
She wanted to get one of the employees set up to our wireless connection so that said employee could do their work in their car from anywhere in the state. Of course, I smart@$$edly replied that it was not yet possible, but that me and the another guy were set to launch our third satellite into orbit from the parking lot tomorrow. Then, we'll have coverage all over the state, but she may want to move her car before we get to T-00. Next, she asked me how to add someone to the local Admin group (for those that don't know, this is first day of IT school stuff). She then proceeded to call me two more times after I walked her through it, because she still couldn't figure it out. Later, she asked me if there is any problems with the network. No, why? Well, she has the task manager open on her PC, and she's surprised at how few processes are running for a network of our size. She came up to me and asked me if I knew what "syncing a Palm" meant. At this point, it took everything I had not to just drop on the floor laughing my @$$ off, and get myself fired. The real kicker came today. Her previous role was as an Access/database support person. One of the higher mucky-mucks from one of the company's most important projects brings me an old Access database that he needs working again. I know nothing about Access, so I naturaly bring it to her. She tells me that she doesn't know much about Access, and that I should talk with the programers. By now the funnAy is gone, and I'm almost ready to ask her what kind of F'in idiot she is. To make matters worse, our dept. is broken down into 3 groups, Network Hardware & Telecomm, Programming, and us. And the guys in the other 2 groups have done nothing about make fun of us over this whole thing.
