Timing Belt Replacement Dilemma...
My 94 LS has about 93k miles. I mis-remembered the timing belt replacement interval as being 90-100k miles, so I decided to replace it, figuring it's probably the original 20-year-old belt. In the process of taking apart the front of the engine, I find pieces of an old shredded timing belt. I get down further and find a Subaru factory timing belt with a date code of 4-05 in excellent condition. So assuming the belt has been replaced at least once, I've got until 120k until it should need to be replaced-- that's >25k miles, BUT that belt is going on 9 years old. Should I replace or not replace the T-belt?
I suppose regardless I'll do the cam seals since they are leaking, so the labor's not a total loss... |
