Question Is My Alternator Shot?

Hi all,
I had an unusual thing happen yesterday. When my wife started up my 94 SVX some of the idiot lights didn't go out. These included the Battery, temp, and about three others. This happened a couple times before, but they went out after a minute or so. I had been told by the previous owner that this might happen, and that there was a wire inside the alternator that had a loose connection. He fixed it, but didn't solder it up, so he was concerned that it might return. Only THIS time, the lights stayed on. She drove it for a few miles (less than 50), and when she got home & told me about it I checked and the battery was almost dead. I recharged the battery, and the car started right up, but again, these idiot lights stayed on. I checked the voltage at the alternator and only got 11.60volts output, so I figure it's the alternator. Only thing is, I'm confused that more dash lights stayed on than just the battery light. Is this normal for the SVX? Could it be something more than or otherthan the alternator? Thanks inadvance for any advice.
