Just to toss in a bit more fun, an EJ251 block with EJ18 heads provide a ton of n/a power potential. Chris (yes, chris with the drift SVX and other fun projects) last I knew is running this type of hybrid on his rally impreza coupe.

As to your reliability talk, a HUGE problem with the Euro cars is they say 10k miles between oil changes. This is because they offer no cost maintenance for the first ~36k miles, so less oil changes, less money they're dishing out. That is the number one problem with the Audi 1.8t and even more so the transverse VW 1.8t (obviously that isn't in your discussion) and also a huge problem with the Volvo turbo charged engines. You're actually better off with either of those having 150k miles vs one with 50k. (case in point, my A4 had the oil pump changed at 55k miles for sludge and obviously now is at 250k and tons of abuse for the last 50k)
If you are prepared for the maintenance it takes, the Euro cars are plenty reliable. But the problem is, no one MAINTAINS cars anymore. They drive them, might do oil changes every 5k miles (with dyno oil) and that's it.
Anywho, that's all for now.

Re: Looking for manual AWD car

Put a deposit on a car and informed the wife today. The winner was a 2005 Acura TL with a manual transmission. It has a little over 100k on it but the timing belt and water pump have already been done on it and it has a solid maintenance record. I got it for abot 1k under blue book. The car has a limited slip front differential, great reliability ratings and very good safety ratings so it met all my criteria. Turns out that a 2006-2008 Legacy GT would have met all the criteria as well and even had slightly better crash test results but the blue book was just too high. They have a strong demand.

Pics of the new car:

The SVX will stay in the family and be the primary car for the kids. They will learn how to drive a stick on this car and it will be my daily driver. The SVX will probably go into hibernation until my son gets his license in 6-12 months.

Re: Looking for manual AWD car

A coworker drives one of those (automatic though). It's a pretty darn nice car.

Re: Looking for manual AWD car

I had one just like it but Auto. I can tell you it is a very safe car. My wife drove it through a phone pole. Cut it off at the base. 7 air bags went off and she left with out a scratch. The car got totaled. The front wheel ripped off, front fender ripped off. Hood and doors still opened. If the Air Bags didn't cause $4,000 in damage it would have been repairable. Bad news I just put all new tires on it on Friday @ $225 each she smashed it up on Tuesday
15 mies on them.

Re: Looking for manual AWD car

Those are beautiful cars, and honda makes the best feeling manual transmission money can buy. It's a shame they ruined them with the redesign. Probably one of the best looking cars honda has ever made. Congratulations!
