How often do 5spd conversions go for sale?
I mostly ask because it's not practical for me to accomplish my current plan of buying a busted tranny SVX and stumbling my way through a 5 spd conversion myself. Dayle suggested I either wait until a blown tranny SVX shows up near AZ so I can just trailer it to Flagstaff (I keep finding blown tranny SVX's on the eastern US) or that I just wait around until a 5 spd goes up for sale.
Well here's one... Two days left on Ebay It's slightly out of my price range right now but I'm really wondering if I should just get a small loan now and go for it. How often do 5spd conversions go on sale?

It is not a stock color, so it has been repainted. I would want to look at it before I bought it. what kind of job is it? You really can't tell from a picture like that.
The other thing that you want to find out is why is he selling. Did the 5 speed not work out? Is there problems with it? Could be. I don't want to rain on your parade, but be careful with this one. You could get stung.

Nice looking Claret '92...
I'd definitely check it out before buying it, as 5spds can either be done professionally (with no expense spared) or be a complete 'hack job' with a multitude of problems that will arise in the future.
To answer your main question, since I've joined the forum, I've seen three 5 spds for sale - 2 on Ebay and 1 by a member here who had almost completed the conversion (sold to Tancred). Good luck! -Chike

I wonder if the ill-fitting console components around the shifter are indicative of the workmanship that went into the transmission swap.

As for the quality of the workmanship, I'm assuming it was done professionally since the pictures of the car look like they were taken at a car lot. (and car lots have their own mechanics) As for the quality of the mechanic... well, only time can tell. I think I'll have to pass on this one.

Supersize the first picture. The signs in the back say:

Good call. I think Earl (ensteele) had mentioned somewhere else in this forum, that he bought a 5 spd a while back, that ended up costing him a ton o' money down the road...
Sometimes, the only way to ensure you have a good quality 5spd conversion, is to do it yourself, or buy one from someone you trust. -Chike Quote:

The dumb V-6, All-Drive and FAST sign sprayed on the windshield was also a dead give-away!

my thought on this is if 2300 is too much to spend on an svx, maybe the svx isn't for you
2300 for an svx w/ no tranny is a normal price the last 5spd svx that smallcar sold on ebay went for i think 8 thousand i just spent around 1500 dollars replacing my transmission, (and i'm still workng the kinks out of the cursed tranny that is in the car now)
