Gauging Interest in a 5mt kit

This poll is to see what kind of interest there would be for a "do it yourself" 5mt kit. I know may are capable of doing the work but not the fab. I hjave had a few requests for the Fabbed parts and want to judge how many would really be interested before I go making up a jig for the parts.

I am mechanically challenged, but if I handed over all the right parts (no fabbing) to my father in law, or my buddy who's a service manager, there is no problem getting it installed. They just don't have the means/time to fab up.

Voted Depending on Cost.

i think that a kit including all the fabbed parts would be ideal. most people can go to wrecking yards and get the transmissions etc, but i think the fabbed parts are the major time consuming hurdle.... with that part done the swap would be much easier.

in fact, that is where i got stuck in my project (although i am now trying to sell my tranny....)

so yes, i think it is a grand idea.

Well this is just an idea I have been throwing around since quite a few members from out west and some in Australia have contacted me about the parts. The thing is I would need the customer to send me the X-member, cross brace bar(runs under the front diff). the pedal assembly of choice(cable or hydro). Shift linkage that they plan on using. I would also need their brake boosters as a core item as well. I may be able to get my hands on a few X-members and cross braces and I already have a brake booster that I can start with. Anyway, the 6mt X-member is the same as the 5mt and so are the pedals, the only difference is the shift linkage(which you will be supplying anyway). The X-member will be able to clear the stock exhaust system with all heat sheild still intact. If you have an aftermarket exhaust, I cannot promise anything. Like I said, more info once the weekend is over.

Ok, went and picked up a ton of stock and a good frame for making the jig. Unfortunately I do not have enough time today to go ahead and pull the X-member. Recreate it, then make a jig for it. That will have to wait until next week or maybe later tonight if I get off of work earlier than expected

If anyone seriously interested want to send me a pedal assembly and shift linkage, please do. I would like to get this started as soon as possible. The first person who sends me these parts will be credited. Also, any parts like brake boosters and the likes will also be credited as well. I can also use a couple SVX brake and gas pedals as well.

Well I will offer the 6speed kit as well as most of the parts are exchangable with the 5mt like the X-member and the pedal assembly. Infact i will be using my 6mt X-member to make the jig.

Thanks to Eric for giving me a hand with redoing the X-member in the silver. We basicallyt created a work of art with the new design. Pics to come later when I can link up my camera to the computer. This will be the X-member that we will make a jig from. The pedal Jig will be made with the stock brake pedal as a template. I could make a jig for the shifter linkage as well but I am not sure there is a need to do that. Anyway, after I do Tom's car on Saturday I should be able get working on the X-member jig on sunday. I need some parts for the first kit as it will be tested on Mike621's car to make sure the jigs are accurate. Then I can begin production. Still tossing around the costs for materials and stuff so I should have a roundabout price for the kit in about 2 weeks

You need to change your signature:

Keep up the good work, but don't kill yourself in the process . . .

Why can't we get a "Tom" in the NorthWest?

Tom, thanks for making a kit that takes all the guesswork out of the conversion for people that are mechanically inclined but fabricationally challenged. Do you plan on selling the pedal assys and x-members exclusivly or can we send you are own to be modified?.....thanks

OK pictures are loaded up into the locker and here ladies and gentlemen is the most ultimate 5/6mt X-member.

It is a brain child of mine and It'sJustEric. He came over the other night and we whipped it up with the quickness. Now I need to take it back out this weekend and make a jig with it
