Question Why do cops go behind red cars??

Hi,

I heard this several times that cops stop and give tickets more often to red cars than others. I mean why is it so easy to get pulled over while driving a red car rather than any other color?? Is there anything against red color for cops or its just the way it is in USA?? I know most of the car companies wont choose red color on their high performance cars except FERRARI. Anyway I am gonna get a red Alfa soon (yep, its damn pretty), so I want to be aware of all the consequences that I may face with a red car.
What difference does it make for maintaining a red car??

-Pavan.

In a mass of bland colors, yellow and red just plain stand out more.

the shape of the car is just as important as the color...

my saab 9000cse turbo was a freakin rocket, and i never got pulled over in that car... despite little effort to avoid it...

i got pulled over 5 times in my svx (only 1 ticket (61 in a 55))

when i drive my passat now, or my moms ford escape... cops never give me a second look... its really amazing actually

(oh... silver saab... teal svx... maroon passat... silver escape...)

If I were a cop, I'd give a Ferrari a ticket if it wasn't red

There is nothing that is as unique as the traditional "Ferrari Red". I have seen one that was damaged in the process of a repaint. The factory has a special primer for undercoating only their red cars, and is used only by authorized repair shops. It is a hot, shocking PINK primer, which causes the top coat to be as bright as it is.

The red makes them stand out, that's why they call it resale red, it catches everyones eye, the buyer, the admirer and of course the evil traffic cop. try a more muted color like nosale silver, that way it just blends with the background.

Why do you think they make fire trucks red?

I have talked to many traffic cops and they say that they don't give any more tickets to red cars than the other colors. The only ticket I have got in the last 15 years is in a silver Toyota Corolla doing 65 in a 60. I have more red SVXs than any other color though.

The red car myth is just that - short of anectdotal evidence, theres no statistics showing red cars get pulled over/ticketed more per capita. There IS however, startling new statistics showing that the owners of orange and yellow hondas are 10X more likely to get the crap kicked outta them by me and my SVX.

I drive red, and have noticed no 'excessive' amount of police presence in the rear view. I have heard that insurance co's tend to pay more claims on red cars. The only thing that I can add is that red seems to be hard to see at night. Most of the 'emergency' vehicles in our area are going with yellow and bright green, or white w red glow in the dark stripes.
I had a red subi on my white and yellow tow truck one night, I looked out the window and thought that someone had stolen the subi. I could not see it . I walked outside and ,when I was within 30' of the tow truck, I saw the bright red subi, still hooked up.

I could see the other colors from 150 ft!

my last 2 cars plus my 95 svx were red - no extra police attention that I was aware of.
But my wife did point out once on a trip out in the long flat plains where you can see for miles - a red car approaching will stand out more compared to any other colour in the distance - and it's very true - I would have thought yellow but try it - I was surprised at what a difference the colour makes in the distance
