Is anyone tracking the part-outs?

My apologies if this is something Earl is already doing indirectly through his tracking efforts, but it seems at least a simple stroke tally might give us an idea how many we're losing. Seems I see at least one new one a week come up.

Maybe a sticky with a requirement or strong suggestion of vin listing to list part-outs? Has anyone done a search to see how many cars have been listed as "parting out" with significant observed sales, in say the last 5 years?

Sorry, too much time on my hands.

Glenn

Re: Is anyone tracking the part-outs?

There are a bunch. This was really common about 5-10 years ago. They used to part them out when all they had was a bad trans. I would think there have been several thousand of them done this way, thru individuals or thru salvage operations like pull a part that jump on cars with mechanical failures.

Re: Is anyone tracking the part-outs?

I'm afraid parting-out will be the ultimate fate of most of these cars, as anything much more than an oil change already exceeds the "market" resale value. Maybe when only a few are left, that select fleet will be worth something.
