How do I get to the light bulb on the shifter?
I would like to replace the light bulb on the bottom of the shifter. The one that illuminates the P R D 3 2 1. (Not the dash one). What's the best way to gain access to the bulb? I am guessing that the sifter trim comes off, but I am not sure how.
Thanks

Re: How do I get to the light bulb on the shifter?
I can't explain it exactly. You pretty much have to undo the screws at the bottom of the console box, and below the e-brake handle. Then it all kind of comes off. You don't need a lot of clearance to do it - just enough to get the bulbs in and out.

Re: How do I get to the light bulb on the shifter?
I have done this many times. All you need to do is take the long trim piece that goes from the front of the center console that is along the carpet. It just snaps off and then you can reach up under to get to the light. It is a bit tight, but can be done and much easier than taking the whole thing out. If you need more info, let me know. The light number is in the How-To Documents.

Thanks, I think I understand which piece you are talking about. I'll see if I get it that way.

Check another small project off the list
I got this done today, thanks everyone for the advice. While it is fresh in my mind here are a few notes for anyone else that needs to change this bulb.
First pull out the overlapping trim piece that is running from the dash to the shifter area (drivers side). It has one plastic pin that will release when tugged. Pull it back and you will see the Phillips head screw that is holding the center console trim in place. Remove the screw. Pull off the trim around the shifter so that you can see better. It pulls up, being held in place by 4 plastic fins. Look for a black round plastic piece with 2 black wires running into the bottom of it. It is located on the left side under the shifter. Reach up under the center console trim, give that black piece a twist and it will come out exposing the bulb. The bulb itself is in tight and can be tough to get out. I was scared of it breaking in my fingers, but eventually it worked lose. From here just replace the bulb, twist the black piece back in place and put it back together. It only took about 20 minutes, and was pretty easy overall. Sean
