Help! Please respond ASAP!!

Hey there all,

HELP!

My SVX radiator cracked it's head last night on the F3 between Sydney and Newcastle. Managed to make it to a service station, but I had to get Mum to pick me up and I left my SVX at the service station (better than on side of freeway!)

What do I need to know to get this fixed? It is near Ourimbah NSW. Nearest town is Tuggerah or maybe Gosford?

Can I just get the top of the radiator repaired or am I up for a whole new one?

Are SVX radiators rare and expensive?????

Cool Re: Help! Please respond ASAP!!

check out the following page -

http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Sear...00&type=Search

click on Peters detail about selling some SVX mag wheels - he is parting out 2 SVXs - JDM models, & he has radiators from both - cheaper than what you will pay in Australia.

regards

Steve in New Zealand.

Re: Help! Please respond ASAP!!

That seems to be a common problem - my radiator did exactly the same thing about 18 months ago.

I had a spare radiator to swap in - but depending on where the crack is and how long it is, there may be some kind of sealant that you can apply to it. Being plastic however, I am not sure how well this would work.

As far as I know, the SVX radiator is unique - and I was once quoted over $1500 by Subaru for a new one!!!!

I have seen several SVXs with custom radiators with a metal top tank - as that seems to be the location where the plastic ones will crack.

My radiator cracked on the top tank, directly in front of the radiator cap.

For a permanent fix, you will probably need to source a spare radiator, or get a custom one made up.

They can't be repaired effectively.
I just bought one from these guys on Ebay, they ship worldwide. $146.89 US plus shipping.

A new one from subarupartsforyou.com is $349.00, I don't know if they ship to Oz. http://www.subarupartsforyou.com/cp_...s%2C+Radiators

Please do not attempt to "repair" the fissure. You will not be pleased with the results.

Re: Help! Please respond ASAP!!

Hi Mike, I would buy a new Subaru one from the US, it will be cheaper to get it there and sent out for less than buying one here. I got a new Air Con condenser sent out for $390 instead of the $580 from Aus. Only took 6 days to get here, instead of the 6 weeks Aus quoted.

If it hasn't blower the a large hole in the radiator tank and is only leaking along the split, you could wire the little valve in the middle of the cap open to relive the system pressure to drive it home. keep an eye on the gauge.

Harvey.
