Stupid crank pulley...
Driving around the other night heard a really loud odd chiping noise as if a belt was slipping, pull infront of my house turn off car, all the dash lights pop on as if the alternator went....get out check under the hood, all the belts were torn to appart. The crank pulley separted from itself and tore everything up. According to one of the techs i work with this only happens on SVXs...Fortunetly i work at a subie dealership so this wont cost me too much...but thats kinda lame that this problem only happens on svxs. Damn you Fuji Heavy Industries!!!

I have one on eBay in perfect shape. Although i've never heard of this happening. How did it separate from itself? Have a pic?

I do, same thing happened to me, but it stayed in place after it seperated, just made a funny noise with the a/c, didn't tear anything up, drove over 300mi with it:
split crank |

it was 170 for the part and all the belts, so somewhere in that vacinity.
The pulley has a metal ring in the center with a rubber ring surrounding that and the outter pulley surrounding the rubber. The rubber detached from the inner ring. (just like that picture) -Alex Last edited by Breck SVX; 11-05-2003 at 09:32 PM. |

I think it was a bit shy of 200$, small change compared to the radiator which ruptured two weeks later.
Well, the pulley, radiator and waterpump lasted over 150k so I'm not sure I can complain. |

I had to have my camshaft pulley replaced also. It bore a hole in the timing belt cover and needed the alternator belt replaced...to the tune of around 300-400ish? at my local subie dealer.

yeah, i've got a hole in my timing belt cover too, but according to the tech, its not big enough to let anything get through with the new crank pulley back in place

This problem affects all EJ series Subarus. They all take the same pulley.

this happened to me as well. the t belt ripped through the casing and an idler pulley broke off. replaced it with underdrive which then shaved down the case more, and i dont ever intend on getting a new one.
