Continued server work....
Hey everyone, sorry for the unplanned outage today. I had an opportunity to do some major work today. My new gig is a state job so needless to say, today was not a work day. So I applied a good amount of that time to further progress on the SVXWN forums server. I think it was a great move forward. Anyways... I will spare the technical and boring details, phase II is complete. That being said, I am more confident in trying to get my $1500 server purchase paid off my credit card now
Enjoy the newly sifted sandbox, more to come.

Re: Continued server work....
So, the SVXWN already purchased the license upgrade/s for version 4 and 5 of the vbulletin software back in 2013. We never implemented 5 because it was a new and genuine mess of code. Version 4 never happened because... well I dont have a good reason other than we were not ready to rebuild the server for the new requirements. Now, we are forced to due to DoS attacks, web crawlers, and just pain ole hacker attacks. Its MUCH easier for us to do upgrades and migrations now that everything is virtualized. That being said, Jim will be evaluating the latest version code for 5 and will be making some necessary upgrades soon. The down time will be minimized because we can spin all this up in the background and when we get ready to pull the trigger, we can just mount the current database drive in the new virtual machine and flip the IPs after import of database. So, dont panic if you see things move around, background colors change, etc... cross fingers and hope this all goes well. Once done, there will be a bit more speed as we can take some the the leashes off the front end due to DoS attacks and such.
Good day, -Chris

Re: Continued server work....
RS25(RIP) recently changed ownership and subsequently formats. Went from vBulletin to something else and it's just terrible now. Can't wait to see the new vB, got my fingers crossed.
Thanks for your time and effort to keep this site up and running!

Re: Continued server work....
You may as well be speaking Navaho as I read through the cyber-ese that people of my age love to ignore, but the end result is you've done more in here than could ever be expected. Just a simple THANK YOU. Ron.
