Fusible link was fried......now what is it?
So, as stated, tonight my fusible link completely fried. We spliced it back together but before there was nothing. The car completely shutdown on the highway. After I pulled it over, I attempted to start it in N and Park. Nothing. Now with the link reconnected the car cranks but I get nothing other than that. It would appear to be a fuel issue but I think otherwise.
Now, before all of this happened, there was some issues with lighting and such. There were a few lights on on the dash for a while that seemed related to replacing my serpentine belt. They were rear lamp, ABS, the E-brake, and maybe one other. They went off. Shortly after that the brights seemed to simultaneously burn out and one fog light. Tonight on the drive home from work the other one went as well. Also, of the 4 buttons for the interior lights in the ceiling, the two on the right are out. Something seems borked with the fuse panel but they all appear intact. Any suggestions? For now the car is on the side of the road. I'm going back tomorrow hopefully with a resolution. |

Re: Fusible link was fried......now what is it?
The voltage regulator has gone, to allow an out of control voltage, to blow out a few of the electronic units causing the failures.
Harvey.

Re: Fusible link was fried......now what is it?
So......is this normally available only at the dealer? Being Sunday........obviously. So basically that would be all that I would need or will there probably be other issues like replacing stuff? All the fuses that I checked were fine.
I kinda thought that is what it was. I did some searching around after I made the post. |

Re: Fusible link was fried......now what is it?
you have more than the fuesable link to replace, I can promise you that.
The over amperage of all the system control units has more than likely cooked a good deal of them. Start by either replacing the alternator with a new/rebuilt unit Tom |

Re: Fusible link was fried......now what is it?
You may also want to replace the fusible link with a good one, rather than a spliced together one.

Re: Fusible link was fried......now what is it?
Okay, so I have replaced the alternator and the relay for the hazard/turn signal had to be replaced to get them back running. For now, the car is driveable. GREAT! I'm just having a few more issues and the pictures in the PDFs are absolutely terrible. Can't really tell what is what and where.
Here is a list of things that I am experiencing in the aftermath: 1 Cruise control works but does not illuminate 2 Fog light button does not illuminate (when pressed) 3 Rear defroster button does not illuminate (when pressed) 4 left side of the dome and map light controls illuminates but the right side does not. 5 ABS light illuminated with brand new fuse installed 6 air bag light illuminated with brand new fuse installed 7 seemingly there is an issue with something elecronic with the transmission. When manually downshifted from 3 to 2, it seems to not hit 2nd and catches around 3000 rpms. Maybe I just never noticed it before, or perhaps 120k was the useful life of this case Any takers on these issues? I would imagine all of them related to the illumination of the dash controls are one issue. None of these things really prevent me from driving the car but all I would like to correct. Who wouldn't? Thanks guys. I'm really not too well versed on the SVX, the Impreza is what I am much more knowledgeable about. Last edited by Dubya-r-ex; 11-10-2009 at 03:39 PM. |
