Tacho strange behaviour

Some 12 months ago my tacho started registering to max just over 2K as if its total scale of movement got limited to just over 2K. I didn't feel like ripping out the instrument cluster from the dash to check things out. Some 3 months ago, for no reason at all I noticed that it was again working correctly. Well, now all of a sudden it stopped working completely!!

Anyone with any experiences with their tachos? Sounds like it may have been a loose connection which came good and now is broken completely.

Any advice will be welcome.

In all my years with SVXes never heard of a tach problem. Check your rpm sending unit.

I can't help in diagnosing the problem but, did experience the same. The tachometer struggled to reach 2000 rpm and stopped there. At the time, I found a replacement gauge cluster and swapped it out. The replacement tach still works fine, 3 years later. On the old gauge cluster, I could not visually see and breaks in the wire connections or circuit board.

Are you sure the needle is not rubbing the face? The needle is very sensitive to pressure....
