Engine Internals?!!

Heres some research i've been doing..
the Ej- 22 2.2 ltr.
has the same bore and stroke... just 2 less pistions..
there are companies that have turbo pistions
for that engine.. what i was thinking was talk to
the people in charge and get 6 of em and put them
in the SVX.. that would give us the lower comp ratio.
there fore enabling much higer boost levels from a twin
turbo setup.. mabie a little far fetched.. but
also mabie try finding the 2.2 turbo from over seas
and get the pistions and try it..
then electronic tuning... well trial and error will have to do.
since there is no " piggy back" i know of..
mabie someone with more mechanical and subaru
knowlege could lend some .02 $

Your right!

There are companies out there that make forged, lightened, and lower compression pistons for the 2.2L engine and yes they have the same bore and stroke as the SVX engine. The only question that lies, are the connection points to the SVX rods the same or will the 2.2L rods fit the SVX crank. These are all things I hope get figured out in the near future as I plan to do a supercharged setup. And if the block allows, I would like to bore the engine, to fit the 2.5L pistons to get a new dispacement of about 3.75L. AWESOME! Keep me updated

good thinking.. I'd be interested in seeing where this goes. It's certianly not beyond the realm of possibility to have custom pistons manufacturered, either. I'd like to see someone blueprint a 3.3 then up the compression to 12:1 and raise the rev limit past 7500 A real screamin' flat-6..

Significant Technical Input Registered SVX
The 2.2 turbo was available here in the states, in the turbo Legacys of the early 90's, you should be able to locate an engine or 2 to salvage 6 pistons from, to check the specs on the rod location....Teages Auto would probably have some already torn down to take measurements from, you could check with them.

THIS IS GREAT IDEA BUT I WOULD WATCH OUT FOR CRANCKSHAFT BEARINGS AND OIL PRESSURE. BUT i REALLYLIKE THE IDEA. KEEP POSTING!!

rev limit

I have always wondered if there is an easy way to raise the rev limit to say 7500-8000 rpm mark. I am guessing the reason it shifts at 6500 is to save the tranny from self destruction, but I do know people that run stock SVX motors in dune buggies and rev them to 10,000 rpm. A manual tranny would solve most of the problems of tranny self-destruction.
There must be a way to trick the ECU to give it a different rpm reading. Any suggestions?

It's typically not just the engine

that dictates max RPM. The accessories also have to be considered. The alternator, PS pump and AC compressor cannot handle the elevated RPM without failing. I don't believe that a dune buggy would use the PS pump or need the AC system.

well you could take the belt off considering
that the oil pump and water pump are shaft
driven from the crank..
eliminate stupid useless spinning mass.
hmm

2.2 pistons

Ok you guys know that guy who did the SVX FAQ?… his name is Terry. He mentioned that he knew about turbo charging the SVX in that FAQ. Well I e-mail him asking about what he had gotten out of it. He said to get a lower compression ratio he did use 2.2 pistons this is part of the e-mail “Pistons were made by JE- they're basically 2.2 turbo pistons. They already had the cad stuff for them. I think they were about $150 each. They're a ***** to put in and out- you need a special Subaru tool to pull them.” So you can do it. He ran a 12.9 on the kit he made with 13 psi boost. I wish I had the money to do this to my car.

Did the P245's fit well in the fenders? The overall height is the same right? And you have all converters removed and resonator, just running factory muffler? If so, how does your SVX run? I have been wanting to pull all my cats off too, because I think they are plugging up, but I have heard that if you remove the two front ones, that the O2 sensors may not work properly. Thanks for any info you can provide.

cat removal

I am guessing there is no emissions testing where you live. If you also took off the 3rd cat, how did you combine the two front pipes into the one pipe. How long have you been running the exhaust like this? How much different is the exhaust tone? -Greg

The 2 "pre cats" where pretty straight forward.
the 3rd one. i cut a {====} in the top of it and
pulled out the guts and welded it back up..
that's just temporary, until i can get a "Y" pipe made.
the tone.. is a little louder still smooth though
just more pronounced. been running like this for 3 months
next step is goin to be cutsom header back system.
yes no emission laws in MT.
hahaha
