Help me with the seal replacement please!
Ok so, I picked up the parts today for both valve covers, the front main seal, and the rear main seal. So for now, we cant do the front, as we dont have a new timing belt. And we know how to do the valve covers, thanks to the how to! Could someone please explain to me as best they can how to replace the rear main seal? Ive gotta change that one out, and dont know how. I tried the search, but couldnt find anything (btw I hate it that it wont let me type in any words under 3 letters

Does the rear leak?
To do the rear main, you either need to pull the engine or tranny. Since you are going to be doing all of the engine seals, I would pull the engine. Although the front and side seals can be changed while it's in the car. It's alot quicker when it's out. If it's been a while, now would be the time to do the plugs also.

What all is involved when pulling the engine out? I dont know if it is leaking or not, but I bought one, and would like to get it in either way, so I dont have to worry about it for some time.

Basically you disconnect all the crap that is attached to the engine, then you lift it out with a hoist. The AC you can get away with swinging off to the side so you won't have to recharge it. It's not nearly as bad as it sounds. Even for the first time. And it will make doing the valve covers a snap. Get a good de-greaser and clean the whole engine up real nice while you have it out too.
I would rather pull the engine than drop the tranny and I've done both in my garage with no lift and no previous experience. On the other hand, if the rear main isn't leaking now, I'd forget about replacing it until it does.
