O/T: Talked my friend into a Scion. Going to Cal to get it

I think I talked a friend of mine into getting a Scion xB (his Volvo 240 has been eating Master Cylinders for 5 months now). Problem is they are only gonna be sold in California this year. Has anybody every bought a new car 3000 miles from home then drove it home? I know that we'll have to change speeds and RPMS a lot over the first couple 1000 miles but other than that it should be fine right? Guess the only thing left to decide now is where to get it and how to get home that is so long as we can find a dealer willing.
