TB cover: Form or Function?
Ok so I have nothing better to do...
Does anyone know if the plastic cover over the throttle body has any function? Or just form. I used to think the "skidplate" under the engine was just to keep dirt out but was wrong. So before I shelve the TB cover to remove a teeny tiny bit of mass from my car I thought I'd ask.

It's nothing but bling. I'm just glad Subaru exercised some restraint in the plastic department. Have you ever seen the new RX8 Renesis engine? No you haven't; it's completely hidden by a monstrous cover; no aluminum showing at all - no alternator, no intake, Nada!

The huge covers are more function than form, they are primarily for noise reduction.
