radiator troubles
So I finally figured out why I smell antifreeze after driving:
the plastic neck where the hose attaches, is starting to crack. Perhaps the clamp was overtightened by an overzealous mechanic, or maybe plastic wasn't such a good choice for this area. I've read about the group buy on better radiators, but this is what I've done for now: there is a little plastic tab that you slide the hose up to, then tighten. Well, I shaved off that tab, and that allowed me to gain another 1/2 inch...that I lost in broken plastic at the end. I'll see how long it lasts; I have a feeling there is a slight taper after that tab, and the hose may want to back off. I can tell you that after emptying and refilling my radiator with new antifreeze, (it was pretty low) my temp gauge seems a little lower! Anyone want to sell a radiator? Maybe an original from somebody that upgraded? Anyone? TIA! |
