easy oil changes

i had one of these on my 928 and it made oil changes a breeze -
http://www.fumotovalve.com/
i got it from a Porsche parts mail order, but they don't seem to carry them anymore and i didn't know where to find them (for other cars), but here they are! i'd just take off the fill cap, slide the pan under the car, flip the lever and come back later to do the filter and fill. now i just need to make a trap door for easy access to the oil filter...

what is the size of the transmission drain plug - might work here, too, given the frequency at which we change the tranny fluid.

Fram makes a little valve thing like you're talking about. Its about 15 dollars. I was going to get one but they didn't have the right kind for the SVX. :|

yeah, i saw those but nothing to fit the SVX or WRX. i'll get the fumoto valve, but what makes me mad is that i just bought 16 drain plug crush rings at the dealer a few weeks ago for future oil changes (same one for SVX and WRX).

I know most people swear by those crush rings but I have changed the oil myself every 3k for 70k on the svx and well over 200k on the wagon and never replaced the crush ring but never had a leak or had a plug fall out. Have I just been lucky or is this subarus way to get another 30 cents for every oil change.

I'm with Matt

Until recently (140K oil change), I had never replaced the crush ring on the SVX.

I've never replaced a crush ring on any of my cars and never had a problem either.

I've done every oil change myself since I got the car. Probably 8-10 times. It wasn't till the 10th Anniv. Meet that I found out there should be a crush ring. The car never had one when I bought it (36K) and doesn't have one today. I've never had a leak and it's always stayed tight
Maybe on my next oil change, I should put one on

i never did either, until last oil change. puddles on garage floor, and it turns out it was leaking from.....the drain plug. new crush ring and no more leak. they're cheap, i can handle it.

Landshark, the engine oil and trans oil plugs are the same size. I have a Fumoto on the trans drain pan too.

For those who don't Fumoto, some aluminum washers from the hard ware store in the right diameter will replace the crush washers fine. Sube mechanic gave me this tip.
