coil idea
i was wondering if i could put accel remote mount super coils off a late 80's 350 firebird on the svx. i figure i could get 6 of them and just run short plug wires off each one to the plugs. if not, does anyone know of any aftermarket ignition mods?

msd stacker which can cost a pretty penny and might not be worth it. i have always wanted to hear feed back so im not testing my self.

yeah i doubt it's worth that kinda money. especially with stock coils. might be worth it with better ones though.

i thought the stock coils are supose to be very good for stock and comparable to aftermarket. i might be wrong?

I've pitched every single Accel coil I've come across. They tend to burn up ignition modules and their output has never been over ~35kv, in my experience.

summit racing has 2 of them. ones 42,000 volts and the other one is 50,000. i had the 42 on my gta. had it on the gta for 5 years and still works great. |

what i would like is some inexpensive coil packs with detachable spark plug wires. my wires are showing where it go's into the coil.

that would be more or less of what i'm talking about doing. the accel coils are only 50 bucks and are electronic ignition compatible. i figure you could mount them all wherever and run plug wires to each plug. they should wire right in.the one i'm talking about is part # acc-140008 at summit racing. |

Mine is bigger than yours!
Here we go again, blinded by the the numbers.
You are never going to see 50kv at the plugs. It takes about 10 to 20kv to ionise the plug gap, a bit more with a higher pressure or lean mixture, then about 3 to 5kv to flow the spark across the gap. The bit that counts is the energy that the coil can deliver, this defines how hot the spark is and how long it flows for. The SVX coils are Hi-Energy, they are able to light up a heavy Nitrous charge, or the extra pressure from a blower. You would need a lot of combustion pressure to need different coils. Harvey.

SVX Hi-Energy Ignition.
I ment to add a bit more on this.
Bosch developed the system some time ago, but the system had so much energy that it tended to short out anywhere it could. When it did, it burnt a carbonised track into the part, to make the short occur again, till the track offered less resistance than the 0.040" to 0.060" plug gap. This tracking occured on the coil top, distrubutor cap, rota button and the Hi-tension plug leads. The 'coil on the plug' removed some of the weak points, so that the only part to be subjected to shorting is the rubber boot, between the coil and plug, as this is sealed against the weather, we don't have any ignition problems. Having 6, each coil only has to produce a spark every 2 revoultions, instead of 3 per rev for a single coil. The SVX ignition is the best you can get.(unless you are using big boost or fuel) Harvey.

if we remote mount the coils wouldn't that create a Hi-tension system, a defeat the point of our system. i know my junk is missfireing but finding out where is the problem
