OEM parts are getting expensive here

Couple of weeks ago I went to the Subaru dealer to get a knock sensor. Out of stock and they wanted $178.00 plus tax (15%). After shipping and duties from Subaru dealer in USA the price was a little cheaper but not by a whole lot.

Got one from Rock Auto made by Wells Vehicle Electronics for $35.79US. $66.53 Cdn including shipping, duty and taxes.

Nuts.

Re: OEM parts are getting expensive here

Luckily for me I have been buying parts for over ten years from my local subaru dealer and they give me 20% off of list price on everything I buy.

The general consensus seems to be that the ebay ones are just fine (and a lot cheaper).

Re: OEM parts are getting expensive here

usually if you just take it off and clean the mating surface to the engine you don't actually have to replace it. it's a gamble with the amount of labor involved but i do it all the time on subarus. there isn't a lot to go wrong with the sensor.

Re: OEM parts are getting expensive here

I also started to realized after trying to replace everything rubber under the hood that many parts are just no longer made and not available from Subaru...
