the svx im buying is stuck in fwd mode.Help?

Simply put, how do I get it unstuck?

I don't have the car in my posession yet, and is there some easy, obvious way to restore the AWD? I'm really desperate to figure it out, as I'm looking to purchase the car today or tomorrow. It's between the SVX and a 90 Tbird S/C 5spd. The SVX is kind of rough.

I'm having a really hard time making up my mind, and from what I understand it seems that a 10a fuse is what the primary thing is for engaging fwd only mode, but will simply reinstalling a 10a fuse reinstate the awd system?

I need to buy something that will be RELIABLE.
help!
thanks very much,
Nick

Take the FWD fuse out of the under the hood fuse box....

But if somebody put it in there, there is probably a reason.....like rear transfer clutches binding, or mismatched tires, or even a different gear ratio betwenn front and rear, due to a transmission replacement with the incorrect gears.....

Yes... you should be very wary of buying an SVX that has a FWD fuse on....... It's to cope with a problem on the SVX no doubt, perhaps he even put it there to hide it.

Be careful with that one... the SVX is a AWD vehicle and is made to be AWD (at least predominantly since subys are AWD specialists :P )

I agree with Huck...be careful...get them to put the car up on a lift after you've removed the fuse to see if the car even operates in AWD (if it doesn't, you could have one of the things Huck mentioned, or it could be a bad Solenoid C).
If it does go into AWD mode, have them take it out into the parking lot and drive around in circles to check for binding.

p.s. get the S/Ns off of the trans and the rear diff to make sure they have the same gears

I was in the EXACT same scenario when I was looking for a car. It was between my SVX and a teal 93 Supercoupe 5 spd. for the exact same price. Needless to say that circumstances forced me to get the SVX and I think I made the right choice. I probally would have killed that ford months ago. The Subie can put up with me much better than I think a ford could. I've already killed 3 fords, but no subies. What's that tell ya.

Try what the guys here recommended and see what the deal is with the AWD and let us know.
