95 - 97 SVX Wanted

Don't know why I cant get these out of my system. This will be my fourth, and I realize the chances of finding what I want are slim and none. Still, here's what I'm looking for:

1995-1997 SVX
LSi model
Green, tan leather interior
(will accept white if they came with a tan leather interior)
Less than 80K miles
As great a condition as possible - zero rust, interior and exterior in great condition, driven by an adult.

Please stop laughing.

I'll arrange shipping.

Thanks.

Larry

Re: 95 - 97 SVX Wanted

And where are you located other than the US? And what are you interested in paying for this SVX? Any color preference? Are you willing to travel, or how far away are you willing to purchase?

These are a few questions that come to mind if I try to help you find one. Thanks

PS Pearl White only came in dark gray or some would call it black. No beige interior on these.

I have just about what you are looking for but 90K. I doubt you are willing to pay what I would need for it though. I paid $5K and have put at least $1k into fixing the little issues/needs (A/C o-rings and recharge, O2 sensors, coolant sensor, both rear wheel bearings, PCV, valve cover gaskets, engine block heater and replacing all fluids with high end products).

The biggest laugh about what you said was the "driven by an adult" part. I'm not sure there are many adults on this forum that drive their cars like adults. I have heard people claim that there is nothing fundamentally wrong with the transmission and it has worked well in other cars. I have heard the main issue was the radiator filter and that any car post-94 with all of the modifications should be problem free. And, yet, there are people (lots of them) with 95s, 96s and 97s that have had to replace or rebuild their trannys. Either people are abusing them or the claim that the newer models are fine is flat out wrong. For every "theory" I have heard on the problems with these cars, I have heard another "car expert" say it is a load of crap. I suppose the one item everyone has agreed on is that the radiator filter was a bad thing that needs to be resolved on cars which have it. But, clearly, that isn't the only problem with either man or machine.

You should be able to find that, the biggest issue being the low miles.

Re: 95 - 97 SVX Wanted

I agree with Sean on the mileage issue. More importantly than the number of miles is under what conditions the mileage accrued.

I would rather have a car with 100,000 miles of highway or long-distance driving than one with 60,000 of short distance stop-and-go. The same with maintenance history and quality of repairs and parts.

I know you would love my 134,000 "Pristine Green Polo Machine", but not the agreed value of $11,500 that I recently negotiated with Leland-West for a collector car insurance policy.

I had to jump through a lot of hoops, meet a lot of requirements and restrictions, and provide a lot of documentation to get it.

I am sure you can find what you want at a price far below that. Find a solid, rust-free body and good maintenance record and concentrate less on the low mileage.

Re: 95 - 97 SVX Wanted

Got mine with 124,00. Everything's works as new. Interior is a 8 on a scale of 1-10. Body is a 7.5. ,could be a 9 with a little work, may get to it this summer. Would be peeeeerfect if it had auto start, but I am afraid to ruin something ( door locks or alarm) if I instal it.

I didn't think you could get an auto start with a manual transmission.

You can, but it's a very bad idea. Our local volvo dealership just had a mishap where one of the technicians couldn't find a car in the parking lot, so he started hitting all of the buttons on the remote to try and sound the panic alarm. As it turns out it was a stick with a remote starter, and it was left in gear with the brake off. The car took off across the parking lot, and out into the street where it caused a 3 car accident.

Wow, somebody did not install it correctly, remote starts on manuals are supposed to be interlocked so that can not happen. usually both neutral switch and parking brake switch.

Read my request. The color I want is Green. I said I'll arrange shipping, so my location doesnt really matter. And the price would be negotiated.

Be aware that between 1995 and 1997, there were two different greens

One is Emerald Green (434) and one is Polo Green Pearl (517)

When color 434 came out in 1994, it was called Emerald Pearl and stayed that way for the entire model year. It is a much darker green.

When the 1995 production began, they carried over the same color (434) and the same name (Emerald Pearl). Sometime during the 1995 run, the name was changed to Polo Green Pearl (although the color 434 remained exactly the same when it was introduced in 1994)

So some early production 1995 cars were called Emerald Pearl and some later 1995 cars were Polo Green, but they all were the same color, paint code 434

During the final months of 1995 production they introduced a new brighter green (517). They decided to keep the name Polo Green Pearl for this new color and it remained so throughout 1996 and 1997.

1994: Emerald Pearl (434)

1995: Emerald Pearl (434) name changed to Polo Green in mid 1995, but still the same color (434). Late 95 color change to the new brighter Polo Green 517

1996: Polo Green (517) the new brighter green color, but with the same Polo Green name as in late 1995.

1997: Polo Green (517)

Great photos of the 95 Emerald Pearl can be found HERE

If you like the brighter green, stay with the 96-97 Polo. Better chance of low mileage also
