Subaru Recall
Sorry to see Subaru getting caught up in the PR recall nightmare. Rusting fuel lines? Is this really something new? Hope none of you are part of this or, at least, Subaru will handle it better that GM and Chrysler.

Re: Subaru Recall
That recall has been out for a little while now. My Legacy was in the range of models hit but I havent taken it in. If your lines are not rusted they just put some rust prevention material on the lines. If they are bad then they replace them.
Link the recall on the Legacygt.com forum

Re: Subaru Recall
All brake lines and fuel lines should be made of stainless steel. It's a safety issue.
I'm sick of replacing them on every vehicle I own. |

Re: Subaru Recall
100% agree. Can't cost all that much if done on every car on all platforms during production.

Sounds like a band-aid fix that will need to be watched forever. |

Re: Subaru Recall
I agree. The extra cost can't be that much more. After dealing with Subarus so much, about a year and a half ago I went and inspected my hardlines closely on the audi. 250k miles in the Lake Erie snow belts can't be good along with all of the sand, gravel and mud when offroading and the water. I was shocked to see them still clean as could be. 15 years later. If it were a Subaru, they'd have been replaced at least once and be needing it again. European cars are a no brainer for me with the climate up here. It's sad really.

Re: Subaru Recall
More Subaru problems?
(AP) — Some Subaru vehicle models have a defect that could lead to engine failure while they're being driven, a federal lawsuit says. The lawsuit alleges violations of the state's consumer fraud act, breach of express warranty and other violations. It says piston rings in the vehicles wear out quickly and some vehicles burn excessive amounts of oil. The models affected by the defect are the 2011-14 Forester 2.5-liter, 2013 Legacy 2.5-liter, 2013 Outback 2.5-liter, 2012-13 Impreza 2-liter and 2013 XV Crosstek 2-liter, according to the lawsuit. The oil consumption issue "can cause engine failure while the Class Vehicles are in operation at any time and under any driving condition or speed," the lawsuit says. "This exposes the driver and occupants of the Class Vehicles, as well as others who share the road with them, to an increased risk of accident, injury, or death."

Re: Subaru Recall
Have a friend who brought his legacy to me two weeks ago because he had surging and variable cam timing codes. Found about 1/2 quart of oil in the pan so I changed the oil. Came back this week for check up, same amount of oil in pan. Burned 4 quarts in two weeks. No leaks, no smoke. Never seen anything like it, it just disappears.

Re: Subaru Recall
Had it on lift twice. I think it must only burn oil under load at higher rpm when the smoke would be pretty diluted. Ran it on the lift and didn't drip once.

Re: Subaru Recall
Because of the lawsuit, this must have happened to other owners. As one who was interested in purchasing a late model used one, it causes me some concern.
