Thumbs up Good news!!!

Well, it is for Randy and Joe anyway.

Some unlucky person has rolled an SVX in the UK, and I have bought the gearbox{tranny for you colonials}!! It is a bright yellow 96 or 97 car [Randy?] with 39K miles, and I am going to bolt the box into my ailing '91. Expect a flood of superlatives when I get to grips with making this thing go around corners, instead of having to float it around on the sidewalls.

A question for Eddy, or anyone who has walked this path. Will I have problems mating up the wiring looms, or can someone give me a name or contact in Level 10, Subaru or DRW or other expert who has done this foolish thing?

Joe

BTW. This car was rolled in England. We don't do that here in Ireland, at least not until we get all the gears working!!

Oh, my word! I hate to hear of anyone destroying an SVX . . . but, in this case, I'll make an exception.

I remember back in the "old days" tat2skulz was having a problem with his newly rebuilt level 10 tranny. It was due to the differences between the 92 and the (I think) 96 wiring. You might drop him a PM or an E-mail to find out what was finally sorted out. If you look up posts by name in the Yahoo archive, his story is there somewhere.

In the meantime, I'm glad you're finally getting your "box." Can't wait to hear the reports.

ME2 Randy,

Not many yellow cars about, I do hope it did not belong to a founding member, one comes to mind.

My car is overdue a 60k mls service. I am looking forward to taking it off the road and fixing the minor problems, along with the major gearbox complaint.

Scheduled changes include the alternator wiring upgrade, plus fixing a bad bearing in the alternator not in stock when first rectified{pun intended!}. Also O-ring in power steering, the pump has needed manual assistance of late which worries me, may be due to low revs because of high 3rd gear problem. Will know soon.

Also, replacing all belts. Also purge and replace brake fluid. Have bought 2 front rotors. And drooping visor. And flopping rear mirror. {everything seems to droop with age, n'est c'est pas?}

The guy in the UK wants £100 for the power steering pump, maybe 130 dollars. Should I buy it??

Joe

PS need at least one rear bearing. Will replace both. But only new, would not use second hand.

Joe - Perhaps you could salvage something "Yellow" from the rolled canary, such as a door handle, rear view mirror or the gas (petrol) filler lid, & ship it to aredub as a souvenir. What a lovely & tasteful addition it would make to ones mantle or coffee table. It'd be a little like the pieces of the Berlin Wall that my daughter chisled off & brought home several years back. Ron.

Sounds like a decent price for a 39K pump. If you have the extra cash, buy it. Especially if yours has been giving you problems. The o-ring fix may do the trick and leave you with a spare that wouldn't be a bad spare to have for the future, or, the o-ring fix may not take care of your problem, in which case, you'd have a replacement. A new pump assembly here runs around 350.00, and that's sans reservoir. I'll bet your 130 includes the reservoir.

There might not be anything yellow left if he did a good job of rolling it!!!

Sounds a good idea Ron. One yellow souvenir will be winging it's way to Kentucky. Or as James might put it, a Canary relic for a Greater Blackbacked Gull person.

Joe, I asked the local Subaru service department about installing a 97 "gear box" in an older SVX, said he'd never seen it, this means you have to be stubborn and see this project through. It is not impossible, JUST DO IT, wire loom, heir looms, who cares?, Joe, you can do this, I have picked up from your posts that you are playing with us, just document the hows, we will follow, the unknown is your oyster, enough crap, good luck Joe.
