EGR question....
I removed my EGR tonight, blocked off the port on the rear, pass. side of the manifold. I then blocked off the port on the exhaust manifold. My question is this, are the two 1/8" hoses that run off the top unit of the EGR the hoses that run up to the throttle body? If that is the case then I will just be tieing those two openings togethr with a single piece of 1/8" hose....

You may be able to replace the sensor with a resistor that will signal that is is working. I don't have that sensor on my model, so I can't say what the 'hot' resistance is. Harvey.

Re: EGR question....
The 1992 US models did not have temp sensors either, unless they were fitted to meet California standards.
This does not mean that it will not throw a code for a fault in the EGR system. Somehow or another, the ECU can still throw a code (EGR stuck open or closed) even if the ECU wasn't programmed for a temp sensor. Regardless of that, Bobby, you can cap or join the two fittings on the throttle body to keep them from leaking. Tom |

Re: EGR question....
Tom - I'm still throwing the code 56, came up about 10 miles after you left.
Can it be something besides the EGR, or do you think despite your heroic efforts to clean it, a new one is in order? Or sounds like maybe I can ditch it too, but would that mess me up for possible future emissions passing? Would love to finally have no check engine light!

Re: EGR question....
The Californians got a harder set-up. The rest just got a code 34 for EGR solenoid inoperative. You got that 34 one, a code 55 for the EGR temp sensor, and a code 56 for stuck open/closed EGR.
The 56 is interesting as to how it detects this problem. My guess is that it probably looks for a drop in the MAF reading to account for the unmetered air, at the same throttle position and same rpms. Harvey.
