I often wondered if the handling would improve if you were to fit a set of light road wheels and tires to it, as opposed to buying heavy 4x4 wheels and tires for it? It should improve the braking and it probably would improve the handling.

The Forester is nothing more than an Impreza with boxy sheetmetal, and can be made to handle like one too.
Many suspension parts from the WRX and STI are a direct bolt-on... My XT is just slightly lowered, but my husband's 98 N/A is slammed on WRX struts with Prodrive lowering springs, and in the twisties it will run circles around my turbo Foz!
