Space isn't an issue... There'll be tond of space in there no matter what Subaru engine you decide to put in there. If my memory serves me correctly, the EG33 (while no longer the "biggest" engine Subaru ever made) was the largest, dimensionally. This is mainly due to the valve covers at the front of the engine (when you compare it to the EZ series 6 cylinders which have a chain driven valve train)...

Definitely a 2.5 would be my choice for the greater low end torque... However, I don't think that anyone will doubt that the 2.0 has the potential for power to haul the SVX around alot faster than the current EG33... Starting off might be alittle tricky in the 2.0... I wouldn't call it a problem though if you mate it with a 6MT and a nice beefy clutch between them... 4,000rpms and come out of it like you stepped on a burning pile of dog crap... That'll get the car moving no problem...

They are internally similar, but not the same. The EJ257 has a few features that the EJ255 doesn't have... But all things considered, unless you are thinking about going above 400 crank HP (which isn't hard in those engines at all) then it would be easier and cheaper to just get ahold of an EJ255 (used in the 2004+ Forester XT, 2006+ WRX, and Legacy 2005+)...

To the OP... Yes, the task of getting the engine in there is completly possible and probably wouldn't be that hard of a custom job. The tough part that would be tough (the part I wouldn't touch to save me even if I was burning alive in gasoline) would be the electrics. It would be my bet that unless you are an electrical engineer or just have no friends and no life (an EE pretty much has neither ) then you will get the engine in but you'll have no HVAC function and most likely no dash...

Because of this I wouldn't do the swap unless I was trying to turn the car into a track car for weekend motorsport events. And to be very honest, there are FARRRR more capable cars out there that I'd turn into a racecar before looking at an SVX as one... Yeah the speed of one of the Turbo EJ motors would be great, and if you have about $10,000 to blow on it I say go for it!... Cause that's about what it's gonna cost (atleast)... But knowing how "tight with money" most of us are, I doubt anyone is willing to invest that much money on their SVX... Who knows though... Someone is bound to do it eventually...

Apparently there was a guy in GA who bought Jason Porter's ("Porter" on here) old blue SVX and was going to do exactly what I described above. However something happened with his funds and he never got around to it...
