stop lamp warning light

I had a weird problem with the stop lamp warning light. At first it would illuminate when applying the brakes after a wash. I had some issues with my rear lamp gaskets so I replaced them. No difference. Then it started staying dimly lit all the time and getting bright when the brakes were applied. The brake lights still worked fine so I let it go.One day my brake lights quit working altogether. This forced me to seek the problem. It is called the stop lamp checker. It is a small plastic box with a circuit board inside that resides under the trunk liner on the right side.Mine was full of icky looking ice(I live in MN).I bypassed it and now the stop lamps work fine. Once I figure how the water got there I will replace the part. I have seen a couple of posts with the same problem so I thought I would post this solution. BillC
