The timing belt on my '86 GL wagon (which my then-wife and I bought new) broke somewhere around 50,000 miles, and apparently this wasn't an isolated incident, because later we received a letter from Subaru stating that they would pay a mileage-based, pro-rated reimbursement for timing belts that didn't make it to 60k. I sent them a copy of the receipt and got a modest check.

I'll bet they never did that with toasted SVX transmissions.
